Luther Vandross – A House Is Not A Home Lyrics 17 years ago
Such a simple metaphor, but damn who can deliver the meaning like Luther does in this tune?

N.W.A. – Straight Outta Compton Lyrics 17 years ago
The genesis of rap. Made money, made people pay attention, infused the genre with so much. Bad ass song, even all these years later. These were hungry dudes... and you can hear it.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – One Rainy Wish Lyrics 17 years ago
It is just gorgeous... this dude could speak volumes and the idea of an undying love, a peaceful love, yielding beauty for another to enjoy is intoxicating. And yeah, when he kicks in the "I have never..." it gives me chills. I really wish this dude wasnt dead. Nobody can touch this song or 1983... just not possible. To me. And this is a song that describes a personal love. He wishes he could tell somebody about this dream he had - and isnt that the part about love that is so amazing? The fact that you have to live it to understand it? This song comes close though. Genius.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – 1983 ... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be) Lyrics 17 years ago
This is one of my favorite Hendrix songs. I think the meaning is pretty clear. Yeah, Jimi did drugs, but to say the song is about drugs is to disrespect the guy. Sure, drugs are part of what helped create this vision he describes, but the tune is not about tripping. It is about what a trip life has become, for humankind, and escaping Orwell's 1984 (even if not explicitly)
