I am deeply impressed with this song. I love the double meanings. I guess curling must be much more in our (Canadian) culture than elsewhere because I just can't imagine not knowing what the phrase "hurry, hurry hard" means! It does make them brave to be singing a song that only a certain culture will really understand. One line that hasn't been commented on: "Doodle circles within circles all alone" Above the obvious meaning that he's doodling, I think the circles within circles is also a reference to the circles on the rink. |

I seem to be only the second person to be seeing sexual references in this song, but I was certain that he was saying he's the greatest at sex. The first verse: "But soon I'll be playin' in your underwear" "You come like a dog when I ring yo' bell" "You got the hots to ride on my plane" "You givin' me all that I desire 'cause down with me I'm taking you higher" But also elsewhere: "I'm the best that you've ever had" "All the girls get up when I sing, yeah" "I've got the answers to the tangled knot Sleep tight in your cot" "Nobody wanted my action dead or alive" Who knows, it might be about that *and* Shakespeare... :P |

| MLA absolutely means Member of the Legislative Assembly. Anyone from Canada (and the Weakerthans are; they're from Winnipeg) would immediately know that, so there can't be any doubt that's what they meant. MP is your federal representative and MLA your provincial one. I don't know what the American or other equivalents are, but it's a common term here. | |
