| Foo Fighters – My Hero Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Too alarming now to talk about Take your pictures down and shake it out The first two lines talk about the amazement of the speaker at what the hero is doing with what seems to be an ordinary body, yet there is nothing special about the pictures the speaker has of him, per-say. The next two lines seem to be about truth or dare, trying to come up with a dare that one-ups the truth that the hero is talking about (perhaps from the pictures), then we the hero does another heroic deed that proves himself true. The next three lines, the chorus, our hero is walking past the speaker. I like to imagine that he picks up the speaker like a child or lover (I know David is a guy) and takes them along. Don't the best of them bleed it out While the rest of them peter out The hero bleeds like any normal person, but even in his humanity he is stronger then the weaknesses of those around him. I always thought that "He's ordinary" was "Curtain as the sun," till I read the lyrics, which to me makes more sense because 'He's ordinary' seems to contradict the rest of the song. Obviously, a hero is not ordinary, he or she might seem ordinary to those around them. I like to imagine a hero stepping sure footed through adversity even though that might not be the case. The last two lines that are different: Kudos my hero leaving all the best You know my hero, the one that's on I always thought that kudos seems a little sarcastic as a word, that could be everyone else giving him praise that falls short of the original and continuing accomplishments. Then the speaker says: "You know _______ the one that helped you, saved you, rebuilt you, deterred danger etc.... and is still doing so." Reminding everyone else what the hero did for them even though the speaker knows. |

| Dave Matthews Band – The Maker Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Perhaps "working the fields of Abraham" are about, not understanding or "cutting down" (i.e. killing) the decendents of Abraham though as many as the grains of wheat in a field, and finally giving up on trying. My personal interpretation is "can't." | |
| Dave Matthews Band – The Maker Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song is my favorite song...so simple and still so complex, I always imagine the man with the iron mask, "From across the great divide, In the distance I saw a light", the crusades, "I have seen the flaming swords - There over east of eden," and sometimes Robin Hood "Brother John." This is a masterpiece, but the current renditions that I have heard of it do not do it justice either by Daniel Lanois or Dave. I feel the drummer should have three hands or something....though Carter Beauford is generally excellent. I also like to think of "The Maker," as the first form of life on Earth, and of course there are many biblical references. Obviously, its about the battles and strife that occur because of the existence of "God" and how he/she/it is not be pleased if you believe that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent, that is. The last line talks about the great flood of The Bible, for instance, its like a curse or a spell, seemingly out of place. | |
| Hunters & Collectors – Throw Your Arms Around Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song was written by a five year old about getting eaten by a large snake. But seriously, I think that teebee303 is right on! I think that even if the writer was thinking about a one night stand, which wikipedia seems to say different, it has much more meaning if you believe that they might at any time be torn apart and never meet again. I like to sing when I cover this (at home) "And if you disappear out of the blue." | |
| The White Stripes – Truth Doesn't Make A Noise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Finally, the heart of stone and the quivering of her bones could be the anger that she has or will have, the speaker fears, if things continue down the path that they are going. The heart of stone could be anything, like a diamond it could be shiney or bright; for all we know. | |

I think that Zeorvermars is very close to right. This song could be about female masturbation, which goes along with the idea that she is mentally ill. Or it could have a deeper meaning. It could be about her not believing that the truth is really out there, to coin an X-Files phrase. Her not believing that she can find someone that satisfies her emotionally, mentally, or physically, and the friend knows (maybe the speaker is her father, sibling, or mother) because he can see it in her face. The Truth Doesn't Make a Noise. One other possibility is that the girl is beautiful, strong and kind in every way and the way others treat her puts them in disgrace, and she can see it in his face because they treat him the same way, because they think that they are better people (the people who treat them bad). And the speaker and the girl are the strong ones and everyone else are the cheaters, knivers, and lyers. The rest is pretty straightforward if you believe my second paragraph. Just read the second verse, it "tells you everything you need to know." Maybe we should all examine ourselves and whether we are the speaker the girl or everyone else. |

| Led Zeppelin – Fool in the Rain Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This is a great song, both the girl and the guy are "Fools in the Rain." The girl for agreeing to meet somewhere that would get the guy confused and the guy for always making the same mistake about the right "corner" to be on. Corner being a metaphor for a mental illness that cannot be cured. The guy will not make the same exact mistake again, he still made the mistake the first time, and the girl didn't know, this is the first time that this has happened, and it is a new love. The light in their eyes is the love that they both have for each other. The change to the samba beat is the girl running to find the guy. When they finally meet about 15 or so minutes after the right time. She is exasperated and she looks into his eyes and he looks into her eyes and they instantly know what happened because of their love for each other, and they both realize that they are truly in love. This is very specific guesswork by me, I hope you like it. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Grapevine Fires Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I believe this song is about WWII, it starts out about danger. 'The grapevine seemed left for dead,' means that the 'grapevine,' word of mouth and good people seem to not be there for the speaker. The wakeup call is a lucky omen and a lover calling even though she thought that is was another bad omen. She realizes that it is only a matter of time before she gets to see him again, and maybe, be with him again, even though he might be left behind. Then she worries that she cannot make it and that we will all burn in Nazi fires. 'Bought some wine and some paper cups' is about change (both senses of the word) and paper money. The school is a concentration camp and an airport (the setting of the song), but the speaker gets their daughter safely. Then the song changes direction, talking about flying on an airplane, words like watching 'plumes,' clue the listener in; the speaker does not say 'smoke.' Both young ladies dance like butterflies through danger (my interpretation), but their daughter is especially brave, laughing in the face of danger (like The Lion King ;-), and dancing past death. The speaker is apprehensive about leaving almost everything she has behind, but she knows that there is only one choice; and she also knows that everything will be alright in the end because she is going to meet her family, and, they, the people on the radio, reassure her. Then the 'new reports' are the messages on the teleprompt (airport tv's), saying that the family is safe even though the persons on the phone know that they might not make it. The 'ocean air' fanning the flames is when they charge the afterburners to get the hell out of there, and the turbine engines are working harder to get there faster. The firemen are all the evil people hoping that rain over the triangle will bring down the flight, even though it is the fastest way to get home. Its only a matter of time before they get their comeuppance. The firemen are also their rescuers telling them, their side is the one of good and they well get there in only a matter of time. Finally, this song is about making it to America....the symbolism, other that that it is about the end of the world, is about taking an airplane flight out of danger, even though there is danger everywhere. I guess the moral of the story is that you have to take comfort in life's simple pleasures. Dancing, laughing, and excitement about a new beginning even though there is evil all around. |
