Hmmmmm. If this is what the song is about I don't know how excited I am about it. I see why one would be anti-organized religion, and even anti-church. I was there once. But Jesus says that "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). The church is there to help us worship in truth, otherwise we as believers would be in a dysfunctional state of disunity. Worshiping alone to God is extremely important, but so is communal worship. Jesus loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). The church is Jesus' bride, and if you can't love His bride, can you love Him? Yes, the fact that people follow what they hear about God blindly and the over-structured workings that the church tends to have are not good at all... this is what Jesus preached about time and time again (Matthew 23). I guess you could say As Cities Burn is just putting these ideas to music, with their own spin on it. But don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Love Jesus, love His children, love His earthen vessel (the church). |

Such a powerful song! Translated from Latin to English is this: "Truly you are holy Lord, the fountain of all holiness Lord, Lord" |

not too sure about the first part. sounds good to me. but I think the chorus goes: (oh, and I included TJ's back-up vocals in the parenthesis below) we will wear compassion we will wear it and the gates of Hell won't stand against it we will wear compassion we will wear it and the gates of Hell they won't stand, they won't stand against it. we will wear compassion we will wear it and the gates of Hell (and the gates of Hell, they won't stand against it!) they won't stand against it. we will wear compassion we will wear it (we will wear it) and the gates of Hell (and the gates of Hell, they won't stand against it!) they won't stand, they won't stand against it. |

I'm really surprised that this song isn't more popular. It's a really beautiful song with a nice, and slightly funny message. It's obviously about how some people today say that the commercialism in Christmas (Santa) is taking the true meaning out of the Holiday. (ex.Then presents came and eyes were turned from Jesus Christ and what he'd earned to watching the night sky for flying deer ... people are distracted by the commercialism) But here, Number One Gun is laying that argument down for the sake of the love behind the Holiday, stating that "Jesus doesn't hate Santa Claus." And the part of Santa doing his job I think means that Santa is doing his job by spreading joy and just loving everyone, which is being an example of Christlikeness, and I would imagine Jesus would want people to associate joy and love with the Holiday of His birth. Bottom line: Just embrace Christmas and have a good attitude! :) |
