Dave has said that he wants to write songs that anyone can interpret in their own way and can relate to. So, I believe everyone is right with their own interpretations. Here's mine... I believe it could be about a girl who is in love with her teacher. She's planning on telling him that she likes him and wants to be with him but she knows that the chances of him actually making a move on here would "take a miracle" because she's under-aged. "She asks them to vacate the building" means that she wants to be alone with him because she doesn't want anyone to see her embarrassment if he rejects her in front of other students hence "and if it goes wrong, there'll be no one to see". "If she could just get the word out" I think means that she just gets tongue tied when she's talking to this guy but she's trying so hard. "She's always stuck with the old route" could mean that she's blindly optimistic and thinks that anything is possible but she needs to realize that teacher-student relationships are morally wrong and illegal. "Does anyone knock when they barge in to beat her down". Her family and friends that know she likes this guy are telling her that there is no way her and the teacher will be together and this crushes the girl because she feels alone. "No one can know just how she feels". "Could she let it go? It'd take a miracle" leads me to believe that there's just no getting over this man. The singer knows about the girl's situation and wants her to be happy but knows that the only way she will be happy is if she's finally with her teacher. "Please don't give up when it's easy. Don't you know that me and Jesus will cheer you on? He's the only one that will be constantly everything you need." He wants her to be happy so he's "praying for a miracle." |
