| Burial – In McDonalds Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I always thought of it as: the woman singing meets an ex and his new girlfriend walking into mcdonald's while they're getting ready to walk out. She freezes and thinks back of all the times they had and how much she loved him, hence the "once upon a time it was you I adored" line. He notices her and says a casual, friendly hello. It's been a while since they've seen each other, hence the "you look different" line from the man. He's obviously gotten over her, at least on a romantic level, but feelings resurface for the woman and she becomes sad. Maybe she still loves him. But I always thought of this song like that... to have sad feelings creep up on you out of nowhere in such a happy, busy and vibrant place like McDonald's, for example. The atmosphere around you is so bustling and cheery, yet you've never felt so alone. Yeah, it's probably a silly interpretation for a song with hardly any lyrics, and probably wasn't the plot Burial was going for, haha, but that's how I see it. :P |
