this song seems to be about relationships, in particular that point where it becomes serious/long-term, and the suspicions and complacency that comes with being in such a relationship. he is also equating getting out of a relationship with being executed, but then I see a switch in his perspective - he sees it as freedom, getting away from being trapped in a dead-end relationship that both people are continuing due to codependency. also.."I got lost on this head trip but won't talk to an expert" - the breakup was traumatic but he isn't going for counseling. sounds to me like he's seeing the past relationship as a trap - he refuses to be tied down at the same time that he misses the benefits that come with being in a relationship. as always, the wordplay and euphemisms are outstanding. |

| this song is pretty apparent - it is about the bush administration, and their handling of the war, hurricane katrina, and other issues. John Fogerty has a history of anti-war positions, and this song is no different. that said, it is a rather compelling song. | |

| I disagree, I don't think it's a reference to the muppet. The word "gonzo" means unconventional or strange, so I think the song was saying that though her death was not what would have been expected of her, she still ended up with "a new best friend..." or in heaven - albeit in an unusual, unfortunate manner. | |

this song is about more than what it appears to be. certainly, a breakup, but serious health and financial problems as well, possibly contributing to the breakup. these are the impressions i understand from the song. it goes through not only how people react differently, but how life happens and people change. "I know I drove you away, I still don't think it was wrong, so I don't know what to say" "been through all the cat scans and bad checks but I slashed your debt, not your wrists and I couldn't help with anything else that became cancerous" he's trying to tell the person, although their life is difficult and they have cancer(?) or another life-destroying disease, you still need to view life as worthy of living. that life is too precious to lose through suicide. he kinda explains that he tried to help as much as he could, and although he cannot be with her anymore, he will still be there for her...even if she can't accept the change in their relationship. |

the phrase hand to mouth refers to a sense of "just barely surviving" - the idea that whatever you get you need it to live, you don't have extravagances or extras. in this song, i think they are giving an excellent illustration of how the barest existence and survival gives you an idea of what life is really about. it isn't about "the chitter chatter" - the media, the celebrities, the meaningless talk. it also has an existential side - humans are simply temporary, and it kinda questions what the purpose of our life is besides surviving it. |

in part this song is about corporations, social inequity, and how people seem powerless to change it - "the rich get richer till the poor get eduated" its also about having meaning in your actions, in what you do, which I think is why he references gandhi. a lot of the songs discusses people who superficially appear to be for a cause, but they never really are: *You need to cut the noose, but you don't believe in scissors *You support the troops by wearing yellow ribbons? *It's the same who complain about the global war/But can't overthrow the local joker that they voted for. *Because when push turns to shove/You jump into your forefather's arms. |
