"We're the day birds Deciding to fly against the sky Within our dreams, we all wake up To kiss the ones who are born to die" He's putting us in the shoes of other earth animals to give us perspective. We all live just to die. "We're the greying herds Hurting each other with our lives Within our dreams, we all wake up To kiss the ones who are born to die Born to die, born to die" 'greying herds' to me is saying that our race is nearing the end of it's life. We hurt each other simply by following our natural path through existence. Then we're reminded that we are all literally born to die. "The drum fish They beached themselves in Hara-kiri The blackbirds They fell in thousands from the sky Their red wings Streaming down from the higher seas Deflected by the grounds" This is to me a beautiful way of describing the sad state of our planet. Animals are dying in massive numbers because they cannot deal with climate change. "They crowned the sun They crowned the sun But I believe that they are free When their time was done They were drowned by the only One But I believe that they are free Washed by the sun" Other earthlings and our own ancestors have no gods, no kings, they crown the Sun. They worship that which gives them life! To me this is could be a reference to the biblical warnings about creating gods and worshiping false idols. I'm not sure what "the only One" refers to, my first guess would be that he means nature or the universe. The ones who crowned the sun were died as we all will, however they experienced freedom while they lived. "Our statues The soaring edifice of our times Detracted from the ways of the wise The future will view all history as a crime So father, tell us when is time to rise" We literally build statues to worship wise, or great humans. The irony is with each generation we realize just how wrong we are about EVERYTHING and how sickening our behavior is. He says the future will view history as a crime, but I believe many already view history as a crime. When can we ascend this cycle of crimes against ourselves and nature? "They crowned the sun They crowned the sun But I believe that they are free When their time was done They were drowned by the only One But I believe that they are free They crowned the sun They crowned the sun But I believe that they are free And we believe that they are free Because I believe that they are me Washed by the sun" These 2 stanzas remind us of what he sees as the ideal way of life. I think he is pointing out how we are trying to dominate nature. How much longer will we consider ourselves intelligent before every last one of us is dead? |

| Sonny Moore – Nodlove Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Sonny sounds to be kind of codependent to me based on lots of his lyrics and if I've learned anything from my friends and family that are codependent, it is that they have relationships for themselves, not for the mutual happiness of the other person and themselves. This song sounds like it is about being in a relationship where both people are only "in love" because they want to be in love so bad that they pretended they were and then he realized that is all the relationship was and ends it. It may be simpler though and just be about lusting over someone and mistaking it for love. | |
| Sonny Moore – Glow Worm Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| To me this is about some sort of relationship (not even necessarily with a person since the song never says) that was great but isn't anymore so he is ending it, and even though it is over he can still remember how great it was. Like I wrote, the song doesn't really say who or what the other party in the relationship is so it could easily be about FFTL, his fans, a girl, or somebody else | |
| Dark Tranquillity – Terminus (Where Death Is Most Alive) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song seems to be about the same thing as "Lost to Apathy" but is more metaphoric and uses more imagery. | |
| Dark Tranquillity – Monochromatic Stains Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| An over dramatic example of why drinking is "bad" | |
| Dark Tranquillity – Format C: For Cortex Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I agree that the song is about searching for (or trying to raise) a person that has not been brainwashed by society, and building on that idea, i think that this verse: "There is no need for you to start revolutions I don't want you to talk to the minions Just show me a brand new face an open mind against a dying race" are saying he wants to protect the person from society so he can learn from them or if nothing else let them live a better life than most of us live |

| Dark Tranquillity – Lost To Apathy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Pretty obvious meaning on this song, at least for those that have experienced or witnessed what the song is about (which I would expect would be everyone but based on the comments that is not so). It is about using apathy as a coping mechanism for personal problems and for the world as a whole. This song helps me personally to overcome apathy but it is still hard... for me, disconnecting myself from everything is something like an addiction, I know that I could do greater things if I let myself but in the short-term it is easier to just be numb to everything. Another song about this type of thing is Disconnected by In Flames. The sad thing is I know people like me that give in to apathy are the ones that care enough about the world to make it a better place, but their reaction to disliking things is to ignore them rather than changing them. | |
| Dark Tranquillity – The Mundane and the Magic Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| To me this song is pretty straight forward. It is about the inner struggle between the way life "should" be and the way it truly is, the world is "mundane" but sometimes you wish it was "magic" so much that you make it that way (atleast, in your own mind)... | |
| Dark Tranquillity – The Wonders At Your Feet Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I've always thought of "these are the wonders at your feet" to be kind of sarcastic, saying that we act like the world is this amazing place when it really isn't and there is a lot of bad stuff that goes on every day. I might be thinking too much about the lyrics though and missing the obvious meaning which others have posted here. | |
| Sonny Moore – Copaface Part 2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I'm pretty sure Sonny wrote Heroine at least, although I could be wrong... there is lots of wrong information/gossip about FFTL so you never really know. | |
| Escape the Fate – You Are So Beautiful Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"That has the chemicals that makes me fall in love" Makes me wonder if this song is a metaphor for drug use "So now I'm feeling like a slave I'm locked away inside this grave And I'm hoping for a way I can be saved (I can be saved)" He's addicted but knows he needs to stop and knows he can stop "You know I found a small paper You lied about, you lied about" small paper = acid blotter? I'm probably just overanalyzing straight forward lyrics though |
