| Aw, I love this song.. the first time I heard it live (before it was released) and I just could not wait to hear it again. Having someone tell you there's nothing wrong with your face is remarkably impowering. makes me smile everytime. :) | |

"do your policies(Politics?) fit between the headlines are they written in newsprint, are they distant mine are crossing an empty parking lot they are a woman walking home at night alone they are six string that sing and wood that hums against my hipbone" I love this lyric (though I think its "politics"not policies?).. its so simple and frank like shes saying.. Im a real person, the way I want to help others is real and sincere.. its about the importance and significance of the everyday struggles/oppressions women face. |

I think this song has lots of hidden meaning to it. Agreed its upbeat and fun, but I think below the surface she is totally spitting in the face of authority. "he's going to put his two cents in 'cause he's got a gun but i'm gonna put in three 'cause history owes me one"....Ie: you might think Im small, or not entitled, but Im telling you I am!.. she uses alot of sarcasm here. Its great! |

This song is so well phrased and very powerful!.. I think its about more than the death penalty however, I think its about a system that at its worst includes the death penalty.. but its also saying alot about the prison industrial complex as a whole and our judicial system. Saying "you might be the wrong color you might be too poor justice isn't something just anyone can afford" is a massive statement to the fact that our system is nowhere close to nuetral and is actually extreamely racist, sexist and classist. Kudos for naming it Ani.. |

This is a wonderful song!.. well lyrically speaking. Ive been looking for the past few years for the perfect quote for a tattoo project.. "i will maintain the truth i knew naturally as a child i won't forfeit my creativity, to a world that's all laid out for me i will look at everything around me and i will vow to bear in mind that all of this was just someone's idea it could just as well be mine".... so spot on, what great words to live by. This song is such a frank manifesto.. love it. |
