Ok so my interpretation is just a little deeper than "he kills her and rapes her, then she kills him and they get married." That is the story told in the song, but I perceive it as more of a metaphor. At least as a metaphor I can relate to the song a whole lot more. I don't know about the rest of you but I certainly have not killed and raped any girlfriends of mine, let alone have them come back to life and kill me lol. When the guy kills his girlfriend in fear of her leaving him, this could represent any selfish act you could do to try and hold on to a person which involves hurting them in the process. Then the part where the girlfriend comes back to life and kills him could represent his guilt coming back to haunt him, and getting so bad that it tears him up and he wishes he was dead. Then all the parts about him wanting to make up for what he's done is pretty much self explanatory. The wedding at the end could represent making up and getting back together. Now the chorus of this song is what I really like and it's probably why I listen to the song so often. The chorus in this song tells the lesson and moral of the story. It basically says that every relationship has to end some time, you can't fight it. If you fall apart, don't dwell on it. Look for a new start with someone new. It's a sad thing to think about sometimes, but once you except it it just makes sense. And then there is the part that really relates to me the most, because it happens every time. The line "a word to the wise when the fire dies you think it's over but it's just begun." I think it basically says that just because it might end, doesn't mean it's done. There are almost always relapses or at least if you didn't go screw things up really bad the person who ended because oh idk say the "fire died" will start to regret their decision. In my experience this happens every time it's really weird and I'm actually sick of it. By the time these girls want me again I've already been to hell and back and moved on, and then I end up feeling guilty because they end up suffering worse than I did. sorry for that last part I just had to vent a little there. Anyways love the song it's one of my favs! |

To me this is about two people that have are locked in a wicked love game. They are both in love but not together and are both angry at each other for things they've done to each other. "This is where our diligence has led The waves roll in to claim our patient steps" They have been in this game for a long time "Can we become more than just ourselves? And leave the sand our want, our will, our doubt?" Will they ever get over themselves and finally be together? "It's firefight, I won't run" He is done running from everything and will stay and fight, and everything that has built up is going to come out of both of them in a passionate explosion, letting out everything the other has done that has hurt them. "There's spit and spite all through my blood" He is very angry and spiteful about everything she has done to him "For you and me, there's nowhere left to hide Except you and me, there's no one else alive" They can't hide from each other any more. No one else matters at this point it's just him and her. "This is now the moment after next" time is continuing to slip away and they are still not together "Are these still the eyes of a temptress?" She hurt him in the past. She lured him in and ripped his heart out. Would she do it again? "Why open a door when you won't go?" She is threatening to let go and move on, but she isn't going anywhere. "Don't ask twice if you don't wanna know" He is saying to her not to act like she wants to try again if she is going to let go. don't make him think she is in it to the end if she isn't going to stay to find out if they are destined for each other. "Is there an answer? And if it's an honest one, honestly worth it's question There's no question" He just wants her to be honest and he will forgive her "The city as my witness I am who I wanna be, but you could be anything Just be anything and here with me" He knows what he wants, he just wants her. "Love is quartz and breath the second hand" Just as quartz is what provides the small bit of power to move the second hand in a watch, their love is all that keeps him breathing. "If you let go then that's where time will stand" If she gives up on them and moves on he will be lost in the past. he will never be able to let her go. This is just my interpretation and what I hear when I listen to this song. I am not saying I am right, because I don't think there is a correct interpretation of a song. How the song relates to your own life is generally how you will interpret a song and different people lead different lives and encounter different situations. This song just really seems to speak to my present situation... |
