Bad Meets Evil – Lighters (feat. Bruno Mars) Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is by far in my opinion, one of the greatest written songs that I have seen. Eminem has some really great stuff, but this is just pure genius.

Both rappers are pretty clear about what they are trying to say, but there are some hidden messages for those who can't see them.

Eminem :

He starts off by saying by the time anyone hears this he would have already spiraled up. In other words, by the time anyone knows whats going on, he is on his way to the top. Like a virus spreading, he is going to set the world on fire. In a good way of course.

Then he says to those who weren't on his side, to watch out. They better duck, or they are going to get struck down hard. I believe when he says fighters, he is talking to his fans. "Fighters out your lighters up point them skyward" Perhaps lighters symbolizes fists?

Obviously he had a dream that he was king, and when he woke up, nothing changed. He is on top of the hill, and no one can touch him. He gives people the chance to disagree, but then says that it doesn't matter because he isn't going to make any excuses. He is going to come out on top, and not you or anyone can stop him.

He talks about being cocky, and how he has to be. P. Diddy talks about that in an interview once, how he had/has to believe he is the baddest mother F**ker in the game. there is no option, this may be referencing that. When your cocky, you believe that you are the best. In order to do that, you need to believe in yourself, and what you are trying to accomplish. When he references other people being slick, he is talking about them lying in their raps. Rapping about things that aren't true to their heart, perhaps just for ratings/money. Not sure who he is talking about, if anyone in particular.

the rest of Eminem he is talking about how he was in a dark place, and came back from it. Kind of like he talked about in Not Afraid a little bit at the end. It's pretty amazing how he described it. True artist.

Royce :

As for Royce, his rap has a different viewpoint. He talks quickly about making a lot of money, and being successful. With the Iron man Audi reference, but then he thanks Eminem for helping him out, like Dr. Dre did for Eminem. Then he spends a good deal of time talking about his father. I think this is the coolest part. He says he wants to make enough money to retire his dad, since his father's back is bad.

He then follows in Eminem's footsteps, and tells people that he is going straight to the top, and that no one is going to stop him. He doesn't do it like Eminem, but if he sticks with Em, I'm sure we will be hearing a lot more from him!

As for Bruno Mars...I don't know aha. Not a huge fan of him, although I don't mind him in this song. Good touch to it.

No, this song was written before that song came out.

Miley Cyrus – The Climb Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that the meaning is pretty self explanatory.

She is obviously talking about a dream she has. And she talks about how it's not all about what is waiting for you at the end. It's not just what is waiting for you at the top and what is going to be your reward. She talks about how there are going to be troubles and obstacles. I think she solidifies it though with

"Ain't about how fast I get there"

Which pretty much means that you don't have to have it RIGHT NOW. You don't have to be the fastest, or the best, or the smartest. It doesn't matter if you reach that point today, tomorrow, next week or next year.

"Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side"

Telling us not to worry about what is on the other side. What reward were looking at. Not to be persuaded by riches, fame, and glory. But to be ourselves, and to enjoy the ride. Or as she puts it...The Climb.

"It's the climb"

T.I. – Dead And Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that the message is pretty clear, with some underlying meanings as well.

Generally I think the song is about as someone said before me, T.I.'s growth, and evolution. I think he is starting to realize the kind of life he wants to live, and it isn't the one of a gangster, losing people to gun fights and having to deal with friends dying at any moment.

He makes many references to trying to leave his old life behind him, and start a new. The album Paper Trail is a very good one in my opinion. With the release of Live Your Life came a new image for him.

Whenever a rapper makes a song like Live Your Life, I tend to favor them in any account. Then he came out with this song? Awesome.

I don't think it would have mattered who he had doing the chorus, the message was still the same. Although Justin didn't do a bad job with it.

Again though, the general idea is that he used to be a gangster. Was involved in drugs, gambling, and a bunch of other illegal activities. Now that he looks back on it, sometimes he laughs. We all do it. Look back on a bad situation and just laugh, because we think "How could we have ever been scared of that?" Sometimes he looks back and gets sad. Example, Philant. He was killed and as referenced in the song, it was because T.I. got in a fight with someone.

Personally I love the line "I'd a take that asswhooping now for sure". I think that shows a lot about his character these days. If he had to choose between a friends life, or an ass kicking, he would save his friends life.

That's just my opinion though...

John Mellencamp – Jack and Diane Lyrics 17 years ago
I was reading around, and the idea of pregnancy came up, and I never thought it that way, but I can see it. I don't however agree with that.

The way I interpret this song, is like most people but a little twist.

I think that it goes in stages, with the beginning being about them at their youngest, perhaps they are dating at this time. Hands between her knees, they are prolly sexually active. Then going behind the shady tree, further shows that they are.

Then it moves into a stage where it's time for them to move on, and perhaps they are still together and it's time to move into the city to be able to live. Work, make money, etc...but Diana says your not missing anything. Or perhaps it's meant exactly like it's said "Aint missing nothing" which is a double negative, means your missing everything. I don't think it was intended that way, but it's there.

Then he says to hold on to 16, as long as you can, and for most people they would agree with that. But why would you want to be 16 again, you have been that age before, why go back, you had your turn =P

Then at the end. Perhaps the best part of the song. Two American kids doing the best they can.

Boys Like Girls – Hero/Heroine Lyrics 17 years ago
Ok, my shot at this bad boy.

[
It's too late baby, there's no turning around
I've got my hands in my pocket and my head in a cloud
This is how I do
When I think about you
I never thought that you could break me apart
I keep a sinister smile and a hold of my heart
You want to get inside
Then you need to get in line
But not this time
]

I think the first line is talking a line, that was crossed. It's kinda like in life when your working on something, and committing to something, and you feel like you have been a part of it to much, or been there to long, that you can't just stop. You crossed a line in which you can't go back. Your afraid if you do go back, things just won't be the same.

When he talks about hand in the pocket, perhaps he means that in a more figurative sense. That his hands are in his pocket, and his head is in a cloud. Just try to picture it. A guy, standing in an open field with his hands in his pockets, and he is looking up at the sky. Perhaps when he says head in the clouds he just means that he is looking up at the sky, at the clouds.

When he talks about breaking apart, I think he had his heart all secure behind a solid brick wall. It's like troy, the city that could never be breached. He keeps a sinister smile because he feels that he has the best shield of all, and no one could break it. She wants to get inside, but she can get in line. He says not this time though, because she doesn't get in line, she gets in.

[
Cause you caught me off guard
Now I'm running and screaming
]

I think this means that she caught him off guard and now he is running and screaming? Now that I think about it though, and back to my reference of Troy. This song seems to fit it perfectly. Troy was caught off guard with the Trojan Horse, then they were all running and screaming after the Greek stormed in.

[
I feel like a hero and you are my heroine
]

Maybe that is talking about Achilles? He's the hero, and Helen of Troy was his heroine. I had always thought this line to be interpreted on many ways though. Not just the male/female hero/heroine. But maybe the heroine was more of a reference to the drug, addicting and such. Maybe he talks about how he is a hero, and she [your my heroine] is addicting.

[I won't try to philosophize
I'll just take a deep breath and I'll look in your eyes
This is how I feel
And its so surreal
I got a closet filled up to the brim
With the ghosts of my past and the skeletons
And I don't know why
You'd even try
But I won't lie
]

Now, I had thought this was a great verse, and still do. I am thinking more of the reference to Troy though. Achilles wasn't the kind of guy to be all philosophical and all that. He just looked in her eyes after he got hit, and told her. About the closet full of skeletons, perhaps all the people he had killed. The ghost of his past could be haunting him, because of the legend that he couldn't be killed. He doesn't know why Helen would even try because of the dispute between the two groups, but he won't lie, that she caught him off guard.

[
And I feel a weakness coming on
Never felt so good to be so wrong
Had my heart all locked down
And then you turned me around
I'm feeling like a new born child
Every time I get a chance to see you smile
It's not complicated
I was so jaded
]

A weakness, his Achilles tendon. The only place that legend had that he could be killed. He never felt so good, to be so wrong. He was supposed to go in there, and just kill Troy, but instead he falls in love with Helen. She turned him around, and he feels like a new person.

Honestly, I thought after thinking long and hard about it, I thought it was just about the guy and girl. Then in this interpretation I mentioned Troy, and it kinda just took off from there.

Wonder if anyone else sees it that way...?
