sure, maybe it's critical and full of satire.... for me...the ending speaks the truth of the song. "i'm in a state, nothing can touch us..." he's in one of those states of youth (or any age) that he feels like he's on top of the world...the center of the universe...perhaps the divine ruler of the world (like jesus)...maybe he's drunk, maybe he's high, maybe he's just feeling strangely hopeful and is proud of himself. i picture a young dude or dudette walking down the street with narcissistic swagger...not necessarily a bad thing. innocent, hopeful, proud and invincible. even though it may just be momentary. |
