This is the first and only HURT song besides "The Rapture" that my boyfriend will actually admit he likes. I think we spend so much time over-analyzing songs that we forget to look at the literal. "Alone with the Sea," in my opinion, tells the story of a sailor. Being a sailor is probably one of the lonliest professions you could ever have. Your entire life becomes swallowed by the sea. Relationships, family, friendships, all feel the strain due the distance and the solitude the sea can create. The sea, something that the man once yearned for, has destroyed everything that he has. Don't you think? :-] |
