AT: With that one, [Gang Gang Dance's] Brian DeGraw wrote on his blog, "Remember when people thought the world was round," and I made my lyrics follow on from that line of thought. I was thinking about things that mean something to me that probably mean nothing to anyone else in this day and age. For instance, I like listening to music on a Discman, where the CD spins, and the fact that it's weird to listen to something on a Discman when most people have an iPod, even though those have an internal hard drive that's spinning, too. |

While i'm certainly not fluent, I know a bit, so I'm curious where you connected alot of the phrases. Like the first phrase, Orange no slide (orange slide), utsusu sora. (reflected sky) Then Sponge no pride (sponge's pride), burasagette (being dangled/ dangling). I'm just curious where you're getting the 'like' from, unless it's implied. |

I agree with elemento. The lyrics are posted in a digi-booklet at the official QOTSA site. It is "evil EYE". Google it. The term is defined as "the belief that the envy of others bring on personal misfortune" In other words, fully translated i believe its something like this: You wanna know why we broke up, I don't know, I don't understand the jealousy of others, or how we broke up. I don't know how it started, and I don't know how it will end. I'm not here to break up, just see how far it will draw out, again and again. Sometimes relationships are different, but mostly it's the same. These^ quirks of love, I just don't understand. If I told you I knew all about love, I would be untrue. The only thing I know for sure, is what I wanna do. I like the connotation of the words used, such as "untrue" for lie, because you can be untrue in a relationship. The fact that he wants to make out again and again and isn't there to break it means he is the one still invested in the relationship; he loves this girl, but doesn't know why, or why she doesn't return it. He feels that he has lost her love spontaneously, and is confused, so he just goes with what he knows, until it happens again. Awesome song. |
