| As simple as this song seems lyrically, it served as a good opener for the show I went to in Seattle. I really like the tempo of this song. It's hardly a "Fail" as someone labeled it as, and I'm sure that comment was coming from someone that will never come close to the talent that Billy has in anything. | |

| In my opinion you can only get the full effect of this song seeing it Live. This is kinda one of those vintage Pumpkins songs like Silverfuck where they just rock out. | |

I've always liked the fact that Billy is a strong believer in having his songs be ambiguous. He even stated once in an interview that creating your own meaning behind a song is so much more appealing than hearing the meaning and it might not be what you thought it was going to be, you don't appreciate the song as much as you did before you knew the meaning. To me this is one of those songs that can mean so many things, pleasure in pain, could be about being something you're not, ect... Best band, Best singer/songwriter |

| To me it sounds like someone who is taking drugs or drinking alcohol in order to escape their depression, and towards the end thoughts of suicide. | |

Yeah, because the best music out there is whats popular right? pffft, what a joke, Brittany Spears is popular, so is Miley Cyrus, you gonna run out and get their music based on that? Smashing pumpkins, or Billy in particular has always gone against critics and fans thoughts on what he "should do". He tends to create music from his heart and march to the beat of his own drum. |

its weird, I get so much imagery from this song, and so many things pop into my head. This has got to be one of my favorite songs on narrow stairs. To me when listening to the song, I picture people being evacuated, I'll use Ben as a character. Ben and some woman go to pick her daughter up from school, Ben has a realization of what is happening that it is uncontrollable, it is nature. I see the wine and paper cup as almost a toast to nature and its power, its almost as if Ben stands in awe, and realizes, I'm still alive, we're still alive, and that is whats most important. |

I think one of the key parts to the lyrics for me at least is : Now you say you're leavin' home 'Cause you want to be alone Ain't it funny how you feel When you're findin' out it's real to me, this was myself wanting independence so bad, saying "I can't wait to get out on my own" and then when it was a reality, and my bags were packed I was saying to myself "am I ready?, is this really happening? For me this song reflects the coming of age where its time to move on, but once you've moved on you realize there is no turning back, ready or not. Now that i'm 30 years old, I find myself reminiscing alot about years past and when I was a teenager, things were so simple then. Now, everything is different and it seems like the clocks are sped up, I keep wishing there is a way to slow them down. |
