Foo Fighters – I Should Have Known Lyrics 14 years ago
i watched the documentary of the album and was intrigued by this song's concept. it has perfect timing within my own life (very cathartic to sing along with). Whomever the inspiration for this song originates isn't as important to myself as much as what the song conveys. And what's the real message? Resentment. pure, unrefined resentment. i love the line 'but i can not forgive you yet'. it has double meaning. Who can i not forgive? The person who inflicted the pain or more importantly myself for not being able to grant forgiveness? Because when you don't grant forgiveness, you end up hurting yourself in the end. But at the same time, there are those scars left deep within the heart that are too difficult to just dismiss so easily as to say 'yes, i forgive you'. i love how the lyric ends with 'yet' because ultimately you understand that you are capable of granting the forgiveness. you're just not at that stage where you can accept that action. And that's where i'm at right now in my life. it'll be a song that i can let out some pent up emotion in a constructive way. And i'm grateful for that :)

Coldplay – Clocks Lyrics 15 years ago
I didn't care for this song until my mother died and then it started speaking to me.

For myself, this song is like a little sonic prayer. What initially drew me into the song was the "home, home, where I wanted to go", because after my mom died I knew I could never go "home" again. So now it's a matter of feeling at home where I'm at.

Lights go out and I can't be saved
(It's too late to change anything)
Tides that I tried to swim against
(Fighting a battle that will go nowhere but you had to anyways)
Have brought me down upon my knees
(Tired of fighting a battle that can never be won)
Oh, I beg, I beg and plead
(I need some help here)
Singing: come out, all things unsaid
(I wanna know truth)
Shoot an apple off my head
(always reminds me of the law of gravity... You can't fight physics)
And a trouble that can't be named
(something's wrong but I can't put a finger on the problem)
The tiger's waiting to be tamed
(This sense of the fighter needs to find peace)

Singing:
You are (in reference to God as the "I Am"
You are

Confusion never stops
(Becoming aware that you don't know the answers)
Closing walls and ticking clocks
(being stuck and not knowing what else to do)
Going to come back and take you home
(There is hope)
I could not stop what you now know
(You can't hide any longer)
Singing: come out upon my seas
(come travel with me)
Curse missed opportunities
(Seeing what you could have done but didn't)
Am I a part of the cure
(wanting to help)
Or am I part of the disease?
(wanting to be selfish)

Singing:
You are
You are
You are
You are

And nothing else compares
(nothing else compares to God)
Oh, nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are
You are

Home
Home
Where I wanted to go
(always looking for a place where you are loved and accepted)

This song is very cathartic for me. I can listen to it when I'm having a good day or when it's not such a good day. It helps me move on. And I'm thankful for such a wonderful song.

This song has a v. special meaning for me. It was there for me when I miscarried and I guess I warp the lyrics to make it fit my own experience. I especially enjoy the Canada AM version she did.

I'm pretty sure it's about Steve Caton also.
