This song is about the forbidden fruit of a woman in another committed relationship. He found his twin flame but she is in a committed relationship already so he's trying to battle with his feelings which are good but he knows they are based in the corruption of good values like chivalry, innocence, idealism, all the things that are lost when having an affair. He found his spiritual mirror (twin flame) which is why she feels so damn familiar and appealing to him. |

Chris Thile made this song up in one day, finding all the words that could rhyme with door. Inspired by the Jack Nicholson movie "As Good As It Gets", this song is about the main character Melvin and his OCD/homophobic tendencies. For a better understanding of this song, watch the movie.
"Nothing feels good unless I've felt it before"
this is in reference to his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and how Melvin, typical of many OCD patients, is sometimes compelled to touch everything more than once. |

This song is one of the best songs on the album because of the content and of the semi-sorta dialogue going on between Chris and the "Devil". The first time I heard this song, I knew exactly what it was about, and Chris Thile even confirmed it. This song is about fighting the urge (which is personified by the "Devil") to break off a relationship which is going downhill. The willingness to continue despite the grim outlook conflicts with the persistent "devil" character's insistence on breaking up. I enjoy the exchange between the two characters as though the character in the relationship is actually talking to the entity. |

The first interpretation would be right... if Chris Thile weren't religious himself--Good interpretation though. I think I remember Chris actually metioning this song being about a band that didn't work out or something like that? I was kinda dissapointed by the actual meaning but hey, a song is whatever you get out of it. |
