Pearl Jam – Just Breathe Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think that even people who havnt believed in God their whole life might have questions as their life is coming to an end.. I think this song deals with that.. So yeah maybe Vedder has been an athiest his whole life but as he gets older might realize that there is a God out there.. |
Pearl Jam – Just Breathe Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Just because someone finds God does not mean they are a religous freak... And also just because somebody writes a song about God does not mean it's christian rock. There are many emotions in this world and I believe people find christ at different points in life. I know for me it was after some dark periods and I feel like this song kind of relates to that.. And btw there are lots of different religons but there is only one truth |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 13 years ago |
and the lie to all your friends being repeated would make since because the band clearly wants to end their careers and they have been pretending that they love what they are doing |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 13 years ago |
ok so I have a new theory about this song... I think the "fight" is actually Jesse and the band vs. the music industry.. the whole song is about the band and the love hate relationship they feel with the industry.. In the song the couple has been fighting for awhile but they love eachother enough to stay together for so long.. There is abuse in the relationship because it's just not working out... In the song "Her" is the "rock star" life,. They like the rock star life but they know it's not good for them... So instead of leaving her they abuse her and " lay her on the bed" they love the perks the life has to offer but they know it's coming to an end... the Actual bed I think is the bed that they made that they must lie in... |
Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song to me pretty much is when Spiritual Love goes bad over time? |
The Ataris – The Boys of Summer (Don Henley cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The great thing about life is everyone goes through the same things.. WE go through love and loss and freedom and rebelling as do our parents as do their parents and so on..Eventually we grow up and learn lessons and we naturally try and prevent the previous generations from going through the same things we did. This song just connects all generations for me. I'm sure my grandpa could listen to this song and think about a time when he was 18.. |
Brand New – Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song makes me Splooge in my pants |
Brand New – Soco Amaretto Lime Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Great post.. Yeah you defintely find hapiness in other places for sure.. but this song caputures that time when you feel like nobody can touch you.. I remember those days being young in love.. I have no regrets because I lived it up fully |
Bright Eyes – Devil Town (Daniel Johnston cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song to me describes a person going through a time where everything is fake. I specifically think of substance abuse. The realizes one day that none of his friends are really real without the substance. Also he didnt even realize all this was negative. People can get warped into the life and not even realize it until it's to late sadley. |
Bright Eyes – Lua Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Good Lord Great song.. Never listened to this band.. I think anyone who has gone through the drug/alchol/women stage can relate to this song.. Great at night but by morning you have to deal with concequences |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 13 years ago |
^ Your interpretation could be accurate?.. i still dont know what this song could be about i would love to know |
Lifehouse – Everything Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Ratty you are right it's not about ....ing religon. Religon is something man created. This song is about Love for Christ our savior. |
Lifehouse – Everything Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love this song as well.. It's funny before I became a christian I just thought this song was a love song. I didnt realize that it is a song about Christ. Christ is the only thing that endures forever. Sadly enough everything on this earth is temporary. Our loved ones get ill, our pets get ill, tradgedies happen. Christ is the only thing that is with us forever and ever as long as we choose. To think of the days when I dedicated this song to a girl... As much as we love our Bf's/Gf's they can't be everything because they are flesh. If they leave what happens.. we have nothing? I feel bad for those who don't have christ.. To think that this world filled with greed, hate corruption is all we have terrifies me. Lord you are my Everything.. Not you suzy sorry.. |
Brand New – Jaws Theme Swimming Lyrics | 13 years ago |
RA2y5.. The Lyric book says that vinnie and jessie wrote the music but jessie wrote all the lyrics.. |
Brand New – Noro Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Protocol43.. It does appear that you have nailed the themes to this album. I am convinced that the album goes along with the theme to this movie "Daisy". Just subsitute the girl daisy for God. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daisy_(1988_film) |
Brand New – Daisy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I must admit, I was kind of dissapointed with Daisy when it first came out. But now it's sort of coming together like I figured it would eventually. At first i thought this song was just kind of repetitive laments over and over again. I sort of understand it now that I caught the reference to the great flood. Also thanks ^ for posting the "Just As I AM" poem. That poem's mood is a contrast to the rest of the song but I think it's supposed to make us think about salvation. |
Brand New – Bought a Bride Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You are probably on the right track.. I have still yet to understand this album but you make some very good points.. I dont think you are thinking to much at all Brand New has a tendency to make deep biblical references.. |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it says "We Need Vices and wave to the funeral gates" And I still am convinced it says "Where is my hay" instead of head it could be hope though |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 14 years ago |
HockyPlaya..I never really bought in to this whole album being about the Limo crash but after listening to this song again it does make since that it is from Martin's perspective.. I mean from a broader perspective it could be about anyone who is lost in life but supposely the story says that the martin guy had a fight with his girlfriend and that is why he got drunk in the first place.. It also explains the lines "with nobody in my bed the nights hard to get through" that makes perfect since. Also the first line "Jesus Christ that's a pretty face" is most likely talking about Katie Flynn.. |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great Insight.. it sounds like you are on to something |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah dildo you are probably right.. Brand New is not a band that makes any references to anything at all.. so the fact that they would get the album name from a movie is just Preposterous.. |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Dildo it's people like you that give this website a bad name.. The whole point of this site is for people to discuss what they think the songs mean.. And What do you think Daisy means? |
Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There are two different kinds of Brand New fans.. Those fans that left after deja and those fans that stuck with them |
Brand New – Be Gone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this is about the Devil trying to capture someone, the person is waiting for God to intervene.{I was told you'd call me tonight} but the devil is the only one he can literally see calling him {the one that is calling my name is telling "come down"} |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree tom.. im hearing "between these vices" too the second time.. And Like Someone said before I think its "We need Vices and 15 pieces of bread" instead of "50 thousand degrees. Also i'm still hearing where is my "hay" instead of head |
Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Wow I can tell you have put alot of thought.. really good insight I would love to get your insight on these other songs. |
Damien Rice – Cannonball Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm not going to lie i havnt really looked at any other posts so sorry if this was said.. When I think of this song I think of a death of a loved one. you step a little closer each day and I can't say what's going on ^ the person who dies is always in his memory and he can't ever talk to her because she died. Also the irony of the cannonball is nice. Basically saying that he is sensative and he falls fast. |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Actually i'm pretty sure it is "hay".. possibly goes along with the dog in the manger thing |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Punx300 I was wondering the same thing.. i'm taking these Daisy songs one song at a time and I havn't gotten to those yet lol.. Also does anybody else hear "Where is my hay"? instead of "where is my head"?..You have to listen very closely |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yeah thats the exact reason it takes a couple weeks to get used to new music.. Brand New's lyrics never make since at first but once you look into them they do |
Brand New – Sink Lyrics | 14 years ago |
u huh the dark hand.. jk |
Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I somehow doubt that Brand New would counter to a song that was put out 8 years ago that they have moved on from lyrically fighting with tbs |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm seeing like a split personality thing.. the one side you are wanting to do good but the other side you are a total sinner my head is lit. i don't ever wanna go to bed. your hair is on fire . you snuff the blaze, turn to vapor, then you float away. we got into a bad fight. ^ if we assume fire represents sin one part of you is lit or begginning to catch fire while the other is already on fire and a lost cause |
Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
If I had to guess I would say jesse wrote this song.. |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Trees,Forests- I think is a reference to family or maybe going through a struggle in life. fire burning- is most likely talking about sin or destruction in your life bed, sleeping- could be about peace or just the world in general i dont really know what yet. Also the concept of Daisy I think could be referring to a 1988 Indian Musical google it. |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i don't know what you feel like. ambushed on the road, stole your gold. you're a rose, and you're laughing now. ^ This line makes me think of the movie American Beauty because in that movie the rose is used to describe the "all american normal person" |
Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me This song is like a follow up to Archers |
Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me this song is about a relationship between a Christian and somebody who is new to the Christian faith. The outsider could feel like the established Christian is judging them for all the errors they made in their life. last night they said the fire had spread then we said our prayers and now the flames are burning me in my bed but I just don't care ^ The first line “they” is talking about the Christians saying prayers for the world in general. The fire metaphor which is very common with this album seems to be talking about sin and destruction. So whoever wrote the song is saying I do sin I am one of those people you are praying for. well, I wish that I was as good as you caring and trusting and I wish that my condition was new but I'm old and rusting we just hurry up only to wait add to the list of all the places we hate I pretend like I got something to say but I've got nothing ^ This line I think is the person kind of mocking the established Christian saying like “I know you never sin, so I wish I was perfect like you”. Also I think they might come to the realization that because this person is being so judgmental maybe it turns them off from Christianity. now I know that you stole from the cradles they were rocked in you took the first words that they spoke yeah, you stole ^ I think this line is saying that the established Christian caused the outsider to have a bad perception of Christianity. The cradle thing is a metaphor, The baby is new to the world like the outsider is new to Christianity. You took the first words that they spoke is like saying the parent is telling the baby how to act from the beginning of it’s life. The Established Christian causing the outsider to think of Christianity differently forcing opinions on to them |
Brand New – Daisy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
well the point of this website is to discuss what we think the lyrics mean. |
Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me the beginning of this song just reminds me of a person looking back on his life when he was younger and realizing you didnt have everything figured out. {Wait, watched you throw out your bouquet now I think about you everyday and I'm alone now in my bed} Basically this part is not really literal but it's kind of a melo-dramatic mockery. Everyday has that "one" most likely in High School that they think they love and will spend forever with well in this case the songwriter is looking back and realizing that person wasnt really anything that special so they both move on. "I think the Ithink about you everday and I'm alone now in my bed" is probably a mockery of how you would feel when you are younger and that happens to you in the moment. But looking back he realizes it was nothing and there is alot more to worry about. "And there's a lake And at the bottom you'll find all our friends They don't swim cause they're all dead We never are what we intend, or invent" This part goes along with your friends from back then. Just like that "one" in High School you probably had a group of friends who you drank with and whatnot. At the time you thought you would be friends forever but in reality once you get into college and your life you stop seeing these friends just like the girl. when you think back about all those friends you realize that none of them are there now hints a"at the bottom of a lake" Basically I think this one is aboutputting the past behind you |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
really? Brand New doing anything random? lol |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
good question.. Well that book in Corinthians is pretty common it's followed by "Love is patient, Love is kind, it shall not boast it shall not envy" I was reading that and I just happend to see the lines "I speak in the tongues" that made me think of this song.. This one also has a couple fight club references i think |
Brand New – Daisy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me if you subsitute Daisy for God it makes perfect since for someones relationship with God. I think the overall theme for this album is very depressing but it is also very real. I know alot of people who have started off a relationship with God and when something goes wrong they bail and turn back to their old ways.. The song vices really makes me think of this.. |
Brand New – Daisy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yes Vin wrote most of the songs and I don't really think any of these songs are against God at all. The Devil and God's theme was kind of the struggle alot of people have with their beliefs and I think this albums theme is kind of a defeat in a since with beliefs. I don't really think of Jesse's past relationships or anything with girls for that matter in this album accept for maybe three songs {sink, Bought a bride and gasoline} |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I found a verse in Corinthians 13 with references to this song.. "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." I think it goes along with this song perfectly. The last part about the flames explain the first verse and the giving all posses to the poor reminds me of the second verse. |
Brand New – Noro Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I noticed very small changes with the songs on their myspace I'm assuming all the songs on the myspace are the "completed" versions |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is def more clear on myspace |
Brand New – Vices Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Where's my creator The dark in the major where is my shrink and my mind erasor We sing a sad song |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's actually, "My Head is Lit I don't ever wanna go to bed, your head is on fire." |
Brand New – Bed Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song has a couple references to the movie Fight Club.. First off the first lines " I don't ever wanna go to bed..." reminds me of ed nortons character because he is an insomniac. There are also other lines talking about not ever wanting to go to bed.. The last verse about the fight reminds me of Fight Club for obvious reasons. And Especially the Lines " Everything I own piles up like bones to make the walls of my prison" or whatever makes me think of the quote "The things you own end up owning you" said by Brad Pitt's character. I dont know maybe i'm way off but it seems like there are some references. |
