I love the way this song sounds and I love so many of the lines following, especially the simile of life as a snake. But I have to be honest and say I hate the first line. "I need a mirror in the eyes of a man." That makes it appear as though she needs a man to recognize that within herself that is amazing and worthy. And I don't think she's the kind of musician who would advocate such thing. I think it's just a sad line. Oh well. I was just wondering if anyone else also felt so very ambivalent about that. Either way, the rest of the song is beautiful and soul-stirring. |

| I totally agree about the power of Gossip in the Grain. It's like his voice got more...soul in it because it's pretty amazing. And it is, in fact, about Meg White, the singer from the White Stripes. I don't know if there's anything going on between them. | |
