Babyshambles – Unbilotitled Lyrics 16 years ago
Are we actually sure that Wolfman IS a heroin addict. I read somewhere he was not.
Also Blue Eyes is fellow Babyshambles member and ex-addixt Mik Witnail

danyes needs to learn that Pete doesn't need to try and sound clever.
He is VERY well read and incredibly articulate.

Babyshambles – Albion Lyrics 17 years ago
What I like about it (like all of Petes stuff) is that its not pretentiously "ironic".
(see Damon albarn). I hated country house etc and people calling Blur "Quintessentially English", they just took the piss. Damon albarn is the WORST kind of intellectual snob. We can all wax on about things that we think sound clever and turn up at poetry readings etc etc. Just makes you look a cunt.
Pete, however is someone with an ideal (Arcadia) that we can all link on too. Not since Ray Davis has anyone been this unashamedly English. Makes us proud.
London is now cooler than New York and thats Petes doing, not Liam (thug) and Damon (ponce).
Keep sailing the Good Ship Albion!
Ps
I just got the Books of Albion. Its a must for Pete fans.
Best £25 you will ever spend.

To Jonnyp I wrote my comment before reading your comment, quite a coincidence as I am an ex user also and thought the same.

When you take smack your eyes go pinpricked ("pinned" is often a term used by users to explain more the apperance of being high than the feeling) and when you come off your pupils dilate massively. Maybe could be that

The Libertines – Music When The Lights Go Out Lyrics 17 years ago
To me it is a refrence to heroin addiction. As a former addict myself (and I am and not trying to be a Pete, I got clean years before he came along) the lyrics about the music make sense as when high on gear you do not enjoy music. It kills all emotion and music depends on that as you will know. When you kick it comes back immediately and for a while stronger than ever.
Also when in the grip of addiction you remember more innocent times like clubbing, doing pills, casual sex, getting into fights and getting arrested which happens to most of us and is always something (bar permanant injury through poor luck) that can be looked at with much more fondness than junk using.
I may be wrong but this is what I read from it and I suppose that is sort of the point.

The Libertines – Up The Bracket Lyrics 17 years ago
The guy earlier was right it is referring to the Bethnal Green Vallance rd living Kray Twins.
It is not based on a real event, the twins are both dead now but would never have been near Pete or Carl and were true villains in the worst way for anyone they wanted an address from, two fingers would not have stopped them and they would not have offered money twice.
Up The Bracket is also as said a reference to being punched in the throat from the Hancock Half Hour show hence "I sighed and said hello"

The Libertines – What A Waster Lyrics 17 years ago
But please please stop saying that two bob=£2. It is 10p
a bob is a shilling which is pre-decimilisation 5pence.
Watch any old movie with money changing hands or ask someone who lived as an adult before the decimal age.
It has been used as slang for pound in younger circles as kids know no other currency than pounds or pence. It means 10p here though.
Fucking lyrical perfection, LauritZenc makes a perfect point about robbie making crass trying to be streetwise references but Pete and carl (in another league) use subtle knowledge and true experience whilst not trying to show off about either. Gotta love 'em. Made London cool again.

The Libertines – What A Waster Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with the nasal/intravenous difference in the "never really liked...so much preferred it the other way" but is more likely to mean cocaine than heroin as UK heroin is very rarely snorted due to its high content of raw opium making it very painful to do so. It could also mean freebasing.
I thought it might be about a loony landlady Pete may have had that he screwed for rent ("laying in bed, paying my rent").
