| Gregory Alan Isakov – That Sea, The Gambler Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Well I would like DamnSam' interpretation to be right, but i just cant shake the feeling I get when I hear this song; a broken heart remembering/looking back at a relationship. Lets not forget that 99 procent of all song are love songs. The sea often symbolizes truth. Gregory sings, to me, in the second verse about a couple dancing the wild and unpredictable and pure dance of new love - "Oh we were sea bound, and aimless at best." He remembers the crazy new love 'hitting starboard' and the feel of this pure beautiful emotion, and he goes on to say that this new love was waiting to 'find land' and settle down. "Oh there we were, and the sun hit the starboard. And we were as free as we could be. We waited for land. Oh we waited for the We aimed to stay calm and cool." But here the theme of the song really comes to light as Gregory sings of his realization that you cannot steer love. Love is true, pure; and the water is pure. He remembers Mary (as in synonym for mary times) and wishes her back. |

hehe, funny stuff. Just took a quick look at em, thinking menstrual cycles inevitable fights in relationships (from a neutral look) - might be wrong though, because i cant seem to figure the 'Bout to turn it up to eleven' and 'brace yourself a twelve' at this point. I think its important not to overthink all of the puscifer lyrics rather than enjoy the song as a whole instead. surely looking forward to some more songs though. |

| Hmm alot of love, yes. But can't seem to cast away the thought of you meaning 'the resistance'? | |

| I think (hope) Matt has chosen to discribe that after the resistance there wont be held a grudge towards "the deceptive". No aftermath, just geoism. | |

To me...im drunk though political song; the american dream is broken, the system has failed. 'They'll laugh as they watch us fall The lucky don't care at all' - They - the lucky, rich americans - is watching the poor fall, the injustice take over. 'No chance for fate, it's unnatural selection' - referes to the "broken" american dream, the broken system. The system fails the lacking. The ones who are worst off does not have the chance to reach their full potential. 'I want the truth' - Matt wants his geoism 'I'm hungry for some unrest I wanna push it beyond the peaceful protest I wanna speak in a language that they will understand' - Its time for some 'real' resistance that can actually change this injustice - even if force is necessery. They wont and cant understand anything else. and so on... |

The lyrics are pretty straight forward. Wouldnt be suprised if the whole record circulates around the uprising resistance - hence the first single and the album title. The duel between govornment and the resistant on Black holes and revelations will propably take its toll on this album. "Come, let the revolution take its toll," matthew still calls upon this revolution/resistance against the govornment. Looking forward to the album and the lyrics. Love the catchy first single.
