| Barenaked Ladies – Bank Job Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The humor just makes this song really good. I love the "bank full of nuns" line! Although the literal meaning of the lyrics is plain and really funny, the song is clearly to be taken metaphorically; this line makes it obvious: "It's the same with a bank job" The metaphor refers to teamwork -- the issues of not giving up, considering the well-being of the team more important than that of yourself, and not having "attitude". I think of this song being sung by sports teammates after a loss. |

This song makes me think of WALL-E. Will you be my friend? I think the weakest line, lyrically, is "I'm not saying anything you haven't heard before". If we've heard it all before, why are you singing it to us? I love the line "Bodies, rest and motion fighting night and day" -- such opposing words playing together, but I don't know what it means! |

This song always hits me hard when it comes up on the radio. The words and the voice and the instrumentation all communicate very powerful emotions. It's a song about talking someone out of suicide, which I've never had to do. But there is a broader message of hope -- that life really is worth living, even if our ideals and dreams are unattainable. |

| Well, after another listen, I take back what I said in the above comment. It *is* a song about break-up. The acoustic version is a sweetly sad song. | |

There's a lot of hope and aspiration in this song (I want to try to get better), and yet it's mixed with the conflicted realization of weakness... Hope struggling to break through a mass of hopelessness. And the last line... Wonderful ending. I love how "Even if it kills me" appears only once in the lyrics, as the last words of the entire album. |

| This song is so fun! About appreciating all of her quirks. The song turns a bit serious in the last verse, but then the last line delivers such a PUNCH! I love it, and it makes me smile. | |

I was introduced to MCST through the acoustic version of this song and the new music video. Based on the content of the vid, I got a different vibe from the slower version than the "break-up recovery" theme that is evident in the original version. On first listen, I thought the song was about a maturing view of love rather than a change of lovers. That is, the couple remembers the young romantic love, as well as the hurt of mistakes they made back then. They miss that "puppy love" but realize that it isn't the real love. The frequent use of the "We" pronoun seems to say that there hasn't been a break-up. Maybe that's just because the video seemed to be filled with sweet reminiscing, without any trace of angst. I don't know how my interpretation fits with every line of the lyrics, especially the first line. |
