Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 11 years ago
Cool down a bit! it sounds like you've been through a tough break up recently, and that's why you have such a negative view of women and relationships in general but you're way way off.
Thinking all women are selfish and unable to appreciate a relationship is like saying all men are heartless bastards, generalizations are stupid.
You just need to find someone who wants the same level of commitment as you do and who is able to meet you halfways.
It can be hard, especially if the type of woman you want is not one that works along with you.
If you do find someone like that, and you're willing to work for the relationship there's no reason why she wouldn't .
But if you don't tell her what's bothering you, if you keep everything inside she might grow tired and feel unwanted and eventually leave you, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want it to work out.
Maybe try finding someone who is not a twilight fan huh?

Like some people said I think this song is open to a lot of interpretations.
I really like it because it touches a side of breakups that's not always shown, the part after you move on and that person that maybe once meant the world to you, becomes nothing now. It's a sad reality about relationships, that time can turn something meaningful to something meaningless.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics 11 years ago
It's probably been said before but here's my interpretation.

The "coming out of my cage" sounds like he's maybe a little socially awkward or had gone through an ugly break up in the past, and he's finally "getting back in the game" going out again. He's trying to keep it cool

"Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all"
"It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss"

He meets a woman and begins to fall for her against his better judgment, he tries to tell himself that "it was only a kiss" that it should have never gotten to the point it's got but it's useless.

Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go

He's lying in bed and can't help imagining what she might be doing somewhere else, with someone else. Maybe he has reasons to suspect that she's cheating on him (if they are actually together) or is just plain paranoia and insecurity. The point is that he knows he's torturing himself, playing a masochistic movie in his head that's making him sick, but he can't stop it. hence "but it's all in my head... BUT she's touching his chest" he knows he should stop , he wants to stop (let me go) but it's stronger than him.

But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr Brightside

I think this could either mean that he's living in denial, making up excuses for her trying to see the brightside, OR on the contrary, that he doesn't have reasons to suspect and he only does because he's insecure and can't help imagining the worst, the "sick lullabies" is the price he pays for being Mr Pessimistic, so the term Mr Brightside is used sarcastically here.
Then there's also the "open up my eager eyes" line, I think eager eyes is a reference of him trying really bad to see what's not there (the cheating) so destiny calling him to open up those eager eyes would mean that he has to stop looking for the worst in things and see things the way they are.

Either way, the great thing about this song is that whatever your interpretation (prostitute, cheating, love triangle, etc) one thing is undeniable, it's about an universal feeling of jealousy, and it's depicted so so well that it comes across perfectly and if you can relate to it you will.
No doubt this is the hymn of Jealousy.

Enigma – Push The Limits Lyrics 14 years ago
I can't believe there's only one comment on this song!
I don't know about the lyrics meaning but I find the video very interesting. I'm not sure but I think it's about the gender's war through history, from it's beginnings till now, and how it's changed, and how that is somehow "killing" the female gender. At least what I saw on the video was how while they were fighting she was the white one and he was the back one, but at the end, when she wins, she takes the helmet off and it turns out she became him, and "killed" the woman. She used to be the opressed one and now she's the opressive and to win "the game" she played by his rules so she ended up becoming him. I don't know, that's what I got from it, I'm probably wrong.

The Cure – Let's Go to Bed Lyrics 14 years ago
Well I'm probably wrong, but I always thought this song was about relationships in general. A pessimistic look of love that compares it to a "silly game"
Wether the relationship portrayed in this song is about love, sex or whatever it's talking about how people pretend not to feel anything because of fear of being rejected, they never say or show what they really feel or are. The silly game of love where no one takes the first step because they always wait for the other one to do so. Like the moment when people say "I love you" for the first time is like very important in a relationship so when the chorus goes like "and I won't say it if you don't say it first" always made me think it meant "I won't say I love you" again, because of fear of the other one not feeling the same, people don't show their feelings wich eventually ends up killing the relationship, but since in this case they didn't break up either, or they did but kept sleeping together, they're like just waiting for something to end it. So to me is about lack of communication and it give you the feeling that it's the same on every relationship "All of this then back again, Another girl, Another name" it happens every time with every person, and love is always a game, where by trying not to lose, you never win.

Saybia – The Second You Sleep Lyrics 15 years ago
I used to really love this song, they played it on the radio everyday and I always waited it for it! back then I didn't have internet so I couldn't download it!
The way I see it, this is about being really inlove with someone that's not open and keeps her (or his) feelings inside. It could be about a goodbye, their last night toether, etc. The way I saw it back then... it's not their last night together but it's a situation that repeats itself, she closes her eyes and remains closed to him, she turns around and never "stays" with him, which makes him feel alone, even though she's right bisde him. So he wishes that for once she wouldn't keep her feelings inside and she would allow herself to be vulnerable, and accept what she feels for him or whatever, and really "be" with him. And the "tomorrow you'll be gone" part could be that she leaves before he wakes up, as always, so he stays awake whishing she wouldn't... or it could be just about saying goodbye to someone, whether it's a break up or they're in a long distance relationship so she has to go the next day.

The Cure – Lullaby Lyrics 15 years ago
I love most of your interpretations! and I agree that one of the greatest things about songs is that they are open to interpretation!
When I first heard it I thought it was about child abuse... the horrible picture the lyrics paint in your mind with the background music that's slightly hypnotic/calming/but scary at the same time made me think it was about child abuse even more...
Besides I always thought this song was from a child's Point of view. but after reading this I think it can be about any kind of fear, nightmare sensation. I always thought the title was called Lullaby because the scenario the song illustrates is something that the writer relives everynight... what he falls asleep to, like the only Lullaby there is for him. I love this song!! and I love how it means something different to everyone!
bottom line.. rape, child abuse, drugs addiction, nightmare, phobias and all that can fit perfectly in this song to me.

Spice Girls – Viva Forever Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm not a Spice girl fan, I was a kid when they were famous but I really love this song. I like a lot of your interpretations, the kidnapping one is good, but I don't think it's a about a case in particular! like mosts songs everyone can relate it to whatever they want.

I always thought it was about losing (as in death) the love of your life when you were just beginning your relationship. "We'd only just begun" And believing that someday you will meet with he/she again.
the whole Hasta manana, which is actually Hasta mañana, the textual translation would be "See you in the morning" is kinda like "Good night" too,
but it would mean "See you later" tells you that it isn't over or at least not to the person who's still alive or whatever. I don't see how it could mean moving on. The video is really beautiful too!
