I'm 45, so I hope to God the people who said the song was about your life being over at 48 were VERY wrong. But seriously Folks....I enjoyed reading the myriad of interpretations of this awesome song. Being a Maynardophile I know not to take anything he says or writes literally but I'm sure there is a connection to Jung, sacred geometry, and Don Juan, ect. Personally, to me it's about AWAKENING to the Ego (chaotic and insecure delusions) and seeing this is NOT your TRUE self. While reading Eckhart Tolle's stuff about 'The Pain Body' I instantly thought of 'Shadow' and there is a huge similarity there. For those of you seeking 'enlightenment' I suggest you read Tolle. His 'Power of Now' book is the best one to start with. He doesn't believe in beliefs. Parabola and Lateralus lyrics could have come from Tolle they are so similar and both songs are my mantras for LIFE!
