punkrock142 is right, I'm sick of hearing others crap on about how every joe strummer song makes them cry. I understand his songs are sung with a lot of emotion but for gods sake pull yourself together. That's not what he wanted. You should be celebrating the man and his music. Go out there and try to change the world for the better, like he did. |

This is the most infectious song, awesome stuff. It's obviously NOT just about India. It's about cultural diversity on the high roads of London. It lists a bunch of foods from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Make mine a lamb doner w /chili & garlic sauce pls. |

I think this song is primarily a salute to the working class and attempts to expresses how their output forms the backbone of society. This was a common theme throughout all of Joe's music, and it's a pretty obvious in the metaphor of (worker) bees producing honey. It's about everyday people doing great things for the benefit of us all (Jonny Appleseed & Martin Luther King) and how the powers that be should respect that and not 'go killin all the bees'.
I think a lot of the (clearly) American comments here are pretty far of the mark. This song is NOT about humanitarian rights in the US, or freedom and liberty. No offence, but I don't understand the obsession Americans have with these themes. The video is shot around the streets of London and highlights everyday people doing their thing.
Great song by an amazing man. |
