interesting discussion you guys have going on and I think there have been some good point made. But, just to sort of put it in another picture and a bigger one. Within Plato's Republic, there is the Noble lie. Now this is an über summary, so for all the philosophy lovers out there, sorry if I do not give it justice (read it for yourself to really understand things). Anyway the Nobel lie is this sort of concept that talks about how as a government and society becomes more complex and intricate, three classes emerge: The rulers, the guardians and everyone else. A lie is then circulated that each group is made up of three different metals, respectively: gold, silver, bronze. Once people start believing that they are of a particular metal and quality and therefore a particular use to society, they are much easier to manipulate things and less likely to question. I sort of got the feeling that this song was relating to this Noble Lie within its Sacred Lie. The main reason for the Myth of the Metals is to make a population complacent and ok with whatever the 'betters' in the society choose to do. But, this song is all to our society not to get stuck into that and to ask questions of our government. This song is questioning the validity of our rulers when they are obviously aloof from most of the country and it is trying to get everyone in the society, especially the middle class (reason for being- they tend to be most caught up in the noble lie) to realize the abuses that are going on and to question our 'great' rulers. |
