| Amanda Palmer – Trout Heart Replica Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Excuse me? I really think you shouldn't make false assumptions about me. I am very against looking for deep meanings and metaphors. I don't think that saying that this song is about the pain if hurting things is an alternate interpretation. | |

just to add another bit, i know that a lot of married couples usually get twin headstones, so i think those are the headstones amanda refers to. meaning, someone wants to have a twin headstone with her meaning someone wants to die married to her which is something she doesn't want to do, because she's not gonna live her life on one side of an &. |

to put this simpler, this song is about the pain that comes from hurting others and wishing it didn't hurt so much to hurt others. (i'm sorry for my overuse of one word) obviously it uses trout as an example. and obviously amanda feels bad about hurting the trout. but it doesn't have to be about a trout, or any kind of animal. it's about the feelings inside, the pain you feel from causing pain and how you don't want to change yourself but change something else to feel less misery after being so cruel to another trout/lion/platypus/person/whatever else comes to mind. |

so, i think this song can be interpreted both ways. obviously it's about feeling bad about killing (or hurting) fish so you can eat them. but it's also about relationships. if you look at any of amanda's blog entries she talks about her lack of communication with her family and friends in boston/elsewhere because of the constant touring. so, to her, it's obviously hard to hurt ones close to her and she tries to 'feed them e-mails', etc. but at the same time it's easier to just go on touring and ignore everything else in her life. i hope this makes sense. |

| I don't know if I was the only one not to hear this the first time, but during Amanda's verse you can hear faint crying noises if you have the volume on high or you have headphones on. | |
