I love this song. At some point in my life, I came to the inevitable conclusion that balance is the key to happiness in life and not driving one's self to "analysis till paralysis." I became infatuated with the concept of balance about a couple of years ago when I was 21. I'd like to think that Brandon was going through a similar episode when he wrote these lyrics. It's so funny...my Dad is the one who led me to this conclusion by overly preaching "Balance is key." for years, it annoyed the hell out of me. My point being, there's a lyrics in the song "Not too pleasant, not too bad. Just enough to hurt my Dad." Always freaks me out to hear that part lol...Spooky, Brandon. |

this song can mean so many different things to different people. To me, it is about being dissatisfied with life no matter how many blessings it hands you. It's that constant feeling of wanting more out of life that a lot of musicians feel. To me, the best sad songs are teetering on the level of hopeful. This song does such a great job of it. The way it is in a major key and ends verse phrases on a minor chord creates that sense of faded hope that I just ADORE. God Dan, stop being so good! |
