The "lake effect" refers to fireworks off of Lake Michigan. If you've ever lived in Chicago, and love it, the feeling you get when watching the fireworks can't be placed in words. He is, and forever will be, a Chicago boy. And, it's not "Til life's on track comes back into focus", rather "Till Lake Shore Drive comes back into focus". Lake Shore Drive is a mostly freeway-standard expressway running parallel with and alongside the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Think of late night drives in the back of a car when your tired and everything is blurry. He's talking about home, plain and simple. |

Oh, and by the way, kiddies It's not "photo-proofed kisses", it's "Photo-booth kisses". The kind of memory reduced to a strip of photoraphs you have to keep looking at to remind yourself it actually happened. |

The line "Trade baby-blues for wide-eyed browns" is talking about the loss of innocence. Baby blues refers to the white-blueish tint that shows in the eyes of newborns and very young children. As people grow older, this colour eventually fades off. He's talking about how he was compared to how he is now. |
