By saying that she's working for another you just means what the extreme position the rest of the song is showing... that she'd want two of him if it were possible so she could love him that much more. It's just showing how extreme she's become. She's working and on this "mission" (changing him), but when it comes down to it he isn't as there for her as she is for him and she gets left on her own and taken for granted. It's not about another person/cheating or lust because she says so and it's not about him versus her because she says that, too. It's about her trying to change him (into at least the person she is being for him) and that never works unless the person wants to change. At the end he's still the same person he was before and she's made herself into a saviour and saint at this point and martyred herself (which they make it a comically literal martyrdom in the video). |

I definitely think it can be viewed from the simplest and most obvious interpretation, but also think like a few others have said here that she's also referring to the popular idea of the Divine Masculine and using God to speak to that (instead of Goddess) and how men can let you down. I'm experiencing that right now, lol, so I can say it really speaks to me that way! Sometimes it does seem like they wouldn't tell you something as important as deciding to make the sky fall and then when it does the woman has to deal with it. haha. |

Also, while I think that the earlier idea about the son and Mister Saint John is interesting, Saint John if taken in a Biblical way would be either known as an Apostle (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) and possibly also the same Saint John that wrote Revelations. The son thing becomes a little hard to figure out then, but the Revelations/Apocalyptic idea seems fitting as an ending like in the video and the sense that a relationship is dead. |

I think it's about Trent too but also she usually has some other layers in there... The line about "boys in their dresses" seems to be about acolytes or altar boys. And their on her left and right sides but "you're not here". We see her in the video like she's in another state or a dream, but first we see her on a gurney like in a hospital. Throughout the video we see flashes of people who look like they're attending a funeral and at the end we see the abandoned house with leaves all over the floor and covered chairs burning in flames and a girl running in her underwear, which puts me in mind of a) something that happened in the past like Tori's a ghost here and b) it's like a girl's dormitory or school. Then we see Tori at the end falling towards graves. Interesting visual metaphor. |
