The Pierces – It Was You Lyrics 14 years ago
I feel as if this song could also be about a significant other cheating, but it's definitely about role-reversal. She's home alone with the light on waiting for him to come back home or just to call and wondering how he would feel if he was in her position. Then again, the role-reversal could apply to several situations; this is just how I feel about it.

Lady GaGa – Telephone (feat. Beyonce) Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree that this song is about being suffocated in a relationship or having an inconsistent partner ("You should've made some plans with me/you knew that I was free"), but the line where it says (in the lyrics above, at least): "Hurtin' my head and my heart on the dancefloor," sounds more like "I left my head and my heart on the the dancefloor," as in she doesn't want to think, she's having a good time, etc.

Such a great song! Sounds so disco influenced. I love her and her songs, haha.

1997 – Patience, Prudence Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah, I got the sense of an affair too.

"Always got one foot out the door (where you going?)"--

The cheater has to leave their lover to go back to their significant other or something...

"It's making it so hard to say (goodbye)"--

The lover doesn't want the cheater to leave and quite possibly resents the significant other for the official relationship they share with the cheater.

"Only kissing me when she's gone (and when he's not around)
You should stay, baby, one more night"--

Pretty self-explanatory; they can only be together when the cheater's significant other isn't around and the lover wishes the cheater could stay with them longer/more often.

I feel as if the verses relate to an ex though, like the current cheater and lover used to be in a relationship but that ended and they still have feelings for each other. Now the cheater has moved onto a different relationship, but (obviously) revisits the old relationship he/she had with the lover. And perhaps the lover is trying to convince the cheater to just give in to temptation and let them be together again--hence all the "let your hair fall/just like water" and "trust your instincts/joy is waiting" lines. The "I'm wearing your clothes/I'm wearing the pain" lines suggest that the speaker hasn't been able to let go of the previous relationship yet.

There are a couple of other lines that could relate back to this too. I don't know; it's just what I got from the lyrics. :]

It's funny though, because sometimes I hear "you should stay baby, one more night" and other times I hear "you should stay with me, one more night." Not much of a huge difference meaning-wise, but I feel like the latter is much more intimate. Either way, I absolutely love this song and the way 1997 does the layering of vocals in their songs; it's great. :]

The Graduate – Gunslinger Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a great song. I love the Graduate in general.

Is there anything behind the slightly similar lyrics of this song and "Sing"?

In "Sing", it's:
"Please, oh please believe
In anyone but me
I'm somewhere in between
Oh, who I am and who you need"

and in "Gunslinger", it's:
"Please, oh please believe
In anything but me"

And then again, in "Sing", it's:
"I'll make it through the night
Sing to me just right"

and in "Gunslinger", it's:
"Say sing to me just right
Sing to me all night"

I might be looking into it too much, but that really interested me.

Michael Jackson – Smooth Criminal Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm pretty sure that "Dad gone it" is supposed to be "Daggone it," which is basically like saying damn. That's what it sounds like to me.

Ah, I meant from this song, not from this vibe. Silly me. :]

We Are Scientists – That's What Counts Lyrics 15 years ago
I get the whole one-night-stand vibe from this vibe, just because of the first verse. I feel like the chorus is about how he (the person in the song) is not going to stop at a one-night stand and is continuing to sleep with this person and then the second verse could be about how hopeless he feels without having this person truly at his side because he wants the relationship to be about more than just sex and these little fleeting moments.

It's a really great song regardless.

We Are Scientists – Lethal Enforcer Lyrics 15 years ago
"I wouldn’t put much stock in fact ‘cause the fact is
It doesn’t matter what you ask, it’s who you’re asking"

Absolutely brilliant, in my opinion, and so true. Everything is relative when it all comes down to it.
Speaking of relativity and opinions, I have no idea what this song could be about. Anybody?

I mean, I have an idea of it being about faking something ("You’re never gonna understand what you’re seeing / Though later you’ll pretend you did and you’ll mean it") and just being uncertain about yourself and what you're faking ("You might think it’s all in your head but you’re not certain anymore") and everyone knows that you're faking whatever it is because you're so unsure and you keep asking people about what they think, but they just tell you to form your own opinion on it ("It all comes back to common sense, I guess that’s what you’re looking for").

That's just my take on it. It doesn't seem to hold up through the entire song though... Anyway, it's a great song. :)
