| This song always seemed to me as like a break up song, in a sense. Really like a bitter ex-lover being like "you're gone, I'm in pain, hallelujah" and also the feeling that its hard to believe in god when you have such intense heart ache. I dunno, just my thoughts. | |

I was under the impression that this song was written about Aaliyah. She died in 2003, this song came out in 2007, hence the line "And even though you passed/ Going on four long years/ Still waking up late at night crying tears/" They had a relationship at the time of her death and he was very involved in her music career. Overall though, I would say that the song is about the death of a loved one and it can relate to anyone's experience. |
