Props to mcflyguy42 for I have always thought he was saying "I got nothing that I want to do more then make another SONG AND fuck you" Sounded cool in my head. But then, i never really thought about it much further until i read this. And 'sonnet' fits the part too. Especially when the line is followed by 'to play'. By the way the '45 past 2' reference, probably has something of similar meaning to the song 2.45. Not necessarily a drug reference. As in, at 2.45 in the morning all this bad shit happens, just because, that's the time of morning when people get stupid. So he has to prepare himself for 'mr so and so' (the bad shit) because he knows that hes a target. |

When i first heard this song i couldnt help but feel sadness and happiness in the same moment Listening to the into i knew it was going to lead to genius.. 'Dont pick me up, i'm fine right where i am' 'Dont pick me up' Dont rescue me - Perhaps, everyone around him thought he was in this messed up world and he needed to be rescued, but to him, it was familiar, and he was content with living it, atleast for awhile |

i think this is one of his saddest songs the repetition and exaggeration of 'I wish i'd never seen your face' |

| Elliott Smith – Cupid's Trick Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song i believe is probably the most vague, of all of his songs, in terms of meaning a) the lyrics are vague alone "sugar lick me up", or "shoulda lit me up" or "shouldnt wake me up" and "its my lie", or "its my life" b) there are strong themes of sex, drugs, and love I think its all three I think like many of his songs it means a million different things at once, and he's used what sounds good rather then what has a set out linear meaning (which he apparently admitted to anyway in an interview, as mentioned before) alot of song writers do that you just start of writing scratches of words about say, love, and then you end up talking about drugs, because, well, both are forms of ecstasy and agony, so they tie in well together, they work as metaphors for one another, but then sometimes you might end up righting about sex, but the first lines you wrote sort of tie in too and sound really cool, so it becomes this combined thing. Vagueness is amazing in a song, its what allows people to relate Its definitely the song im most intrigued by anyhow |

Between the bars: Behind bars in prison A metaphor for being the type of person who doesn't let lose, who holds back, 'The things you could do, you won't but you might' Just an idea |

| Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I definitely think there are drug references in here. But that doesn't necessarily mean the song has anything to do with drugs. I mean it may well have everything to do with drugs. But since most people think every second song of his is about drugs i want to note: I write songs myself and find drug references the most intriguing to use in a song. They are confusing, interesting, and smart metaphors that can mean so many things. The song is perhaps even about a farewell to a certain lifestyle. A drug lifestyle maybe. However, it could also be viewed as such: He moved around a lot because he never felt "at home" so he's saying goodbye to a town and friends because he didn't quite fit in, hence the line "this is not my life", "its not what im like", and, "to a friend who couldn't get things right" (referring to himself?). He wrote a lot of songs about towns. Anyhow. The reason for the rambling is because i listened to this song a lot when i was moving towns and i found i connected with some of the lines in the sense mentioned above. |

I agree with nopoetic Two people who are enjoying each other's company but who are not in love, or even experiencing any substantial level of affection for one another, and know that they never will, yet are still content to be around each other, because its preferred over loneliness. 'I know what you are I just don't mind' |
