no, I think it's about realizing that you loved someone in the past more than the person you are with. not that you're still in love with that someone in the past. they just changed everything and it's not easy to find again. |

I feel like evanreyes is on the right track too but we don't have to lend too much credibility to the lyricist. In his situation he would come up with rationalizations for her inaction (Now I can tell you're always thinking twice about what might be better). And trying to reduce her to something he overestimated in many ways. Heartbreaking , yea: you can write song, or post comments in these moments of empowerment, but you're still waiting for them |

i think it's closer to what sethbrown was saying. Only elvrum didn't become a jerk. This song is localized to that moment during a breakup before you even know that's what's happening. He's full of anger that he can't help but lash out (You deserve yourself), and intense, unresolved solipsism. |

The title, dialogue and magic imagery cause the lyrics to read like a fable. Even the subject, rendered so matter-of-factly reminds me of a lesson related through a children's story. Kyp has a kid, maybe that influenced his writing for this one.
The stuff about Dogstar/Sirius reiterates the cyclic theme in the song. Cycles of, well, everything. Embrace it wholly, it's worth it. Good advice for us kids. |
