i noticed another similarity to the "the raven" by poe. if you look on the album cover there is the obvious raven, but also the logo of the band is a shadow on the floor: "And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted - nevermore!" |

my interpertation(im pretty sure about this song-contrary to other cof songs): "Weak midnight promises of love Were wept upon Her grave And shunned by stars above In mortal life lurks my dismay An Angel stole my heart and Death took Her away" his love died an he weeps opun her grave "She sleeps beyond the grace of god A dreaming beauty If wishes could only fray that bond The dead would sing for me..." her soul is beyond the 'realm' of god. "Twelfth moon arose with ghostly voice A poet's serenade Her name a whisper 'pon my lips And lo, Rorasa came" here danny reavels that it is a december night and the dead women he loved called - rorasa. rorasa - a name of a witch from the 'witches gospel'. in wihch rorasa was the disciple of the goodess of the moon 'diana'. "Fear me not my grieving King Funereal in breath The secrets of the dark I know And thus, we shall cheat Death" rorasa is back from the dead with a secret that can help danny live forever. "My promises wrought though despondence that night Have delivered me gifts from the grave Rorasa enshadowed and eternal life Never a Devil so vain The Angel is fallen, for I thought her lost And no heaven would silence the pain Teach me these secrets, the sensual frost Desire for warm blood again" this can mean the secret of eternal life has to do with the desire for warm blood - vampirism through drinking others blood and/or to have a warm blood even in death. "Princess lay down thy florid cheek In drunken splendour Tonight rare regal fate has cast The wolves among the sheep" rorasa is drunk - a clue which means she drank is blood. now they are both vampires and can act as 'wolves' among the sheeps - the victims. To dusk and flesh ascend" danny describes the feeling of becoming a vampire - with his arms wrapped around her neck as she just bitten him. "The Sun descends, magenta spirits fill the skies and wreak erotic maladies where sex and Death abide From writhing tides where gothick siren weave their song to shore Through the ashes of the battlefields where ravens and angels war As phantoms we have fled the basilisk of day To rise as phoenix taloned, nightly taking prey" maladies are a reference to illnesses - those are specificlly connected to Death and Sex - vampirism. gothick sirens - actually sirens are from greek mythologhy.they are like mermaids who use their beautiful voice (while singing) and later their beauty to attract sailor to their doom. ravens - actually means 'satan's angels' ,they appear in many cof lyrics - and yet not as the animals - since the animals are deliberatly called 'crows'(in cof's songs). phantoms - a ghost ,a spectre. as ghost they hide from daylight - as in the night they arise stronger as pheonix(a mythologhical bird which ressurects) to hunt. "We rule like the red and risen moon upon the sea The stars of judgement silent, for we share joyous Eternity Damnation Salvation Stigmata plague" the stars of judgement - refers to astral pagan deities and the believe(originally pagan) that stars can determine one's fate(survived till today - astrology). stigmata - in middle ages christianity - a believe that trying to feel jesus's pain on the cross or trying to share is burden can manifest with his crucifiction wounds in the believers body. His temple, ruined, burns And sweet Rorasa laughs" the christians are portrayed as decievers who defended the cross before their lives(dragged before their cross). the temple of christ(churches) are burned by the lava - yet danny escaped death because he gained eternal life with rorasa and her pagan ways. "I am enamoured and imparadised To catch the fires dancing profanely in her eyes "I will crush them all If this holds thy delight" Rather dead forever than to lose her Nymph-lascivious Aphrodite" observing how she delights from the sights of the eruption,danny,promises to kill more christians if it will please her. he rather be forever dead(vampire) than to live without her. |
