It seems like he's frustrated with a relationship because he's at a different place in his life than the girl is. Like she's really immature and changes her mind a lot and he goes crazy trying to deal with it. But ultimately, as the chorus suggests, he finds out that he doesn't need that girl to be happy because he's happy with himself. |

I agree! And I like your interpretation :) Just to add on though, it seems like when he says, "Stand by me I'm okay now I'm where I need to be I'm yours" it's as if he was finally over a past relationship and was able to move on in life. And even though he didn't know the girl in the dream, she represents the fact that he was finally ready to love another person again. Almost like his dream foreshadowed his real life. |
