you can really see this song happening as it lays out it shows how she and someone very intreaging had a timeless time together and she could think of nothing she wanted more than to brake into the iwndow there behind her door

adding to what seventy x 7 said
before i read seventy x7's meaning i always did think it was about a person the ideal person and how it said every thing from
You have hands of raining water
to
And a bump upon the head
especially the laughing tail of the fool described someone i knew and this song i like very much

Suzanne Vega – Language Lyrics 17 years ago
look for my inout on other suzzane vega songs especially queen and soldier i am !@#$%^&*()

i agree with kristina ks although.........
it doesnt have to be about love
it too like the parts she liked however my favourite part is
If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be

These words are too solid
They don't move fast enough
To catch the blur in the brain
That flies by and is gone

it is very very straight forward and in that words are too slow and dont say what you say or describe how you feel now matter how articulate you are

in saying if language were liquid it would be rushing in she shows how much faster we think than we talk and how deep all of us can be and are but for some more than others the blur it the brain will never be even attempted to be described in words nor the eloquent silence wi=hich of course is much more fitting

Suzanne Vega – In The Eye Lyrics 17 years ago
look for my meanigs on other suzanne vega songs!i am !@#$%^&*()

this song shows that what would stick in a killers mind more than squirming more than runing more than talking is staring them right in the eye, letting them see you and burning yourself in there head
that is what would drive them insane and have them never forget you and hurt them, some would say , more than they hurt you

Suzanne Vega – The Queen And The Soldier Lyrics 17 years ago
i didnt read all of the other things poateds but most of them were just wrong

i can see how this could be a love song but sorry i dont believe it is

the song is on two levels
one in which it is as she says, a soldier confronting a queen about war
and the second in which the soldier (the queens, posibly suzanne vega's, conscience) confronts her via "knocking on the door"
killing of fighting is sending suggestions or advice to the queen to guide her morally.
the soldiers gave up and said i am not fighting for you any more.
going into her room with her tapestries red doesnt mean they went anywhere at all it means they ventured further into the colour of her mind and of her sub conscious.
he says i see now you are so very young
that means she is young, inexperienced and nieve all of which the soldiers was unaware of but the doesnt the amount of battles she has lost to the amount she has won (i've seen more battles lost than i have battles won)

he took her to the window to see
she new how it frightened her and she turned away and would not look at his face again

and this might just be the most trajic part of the song

Out in the distance her order was heard
And the soldier was killed, still waiting for her word
And while the queen went on strangling in the solitude she preferred
The battle continued on

it shows how she shun him and and fell back into old habbits but you know the thought of him, what he said and how she knew he was right will burn in the back of her mind for life.
