when i first heard this song, i thought it was all incredibly cliche and platonic, until the last part, "distraught, disguised..." definitely makes it the best song on the album. lost the album, searched foreverrrrr for a new copy, but their newer cd is not nearly as good. |

has anyone noticed how chiasmic this song, as well as others on the album, is? i really love it. i also, like basically everyone who has commented this song, love the "bored as hell in heaven" line. witty shit. i understand the "lazarus" allusion, to the beggar who went to heaven, and the man he always asked money from, who always denied him it, went to hell, but who is his chauffer? the rich man maybe, or God? i don't know. and most importantly, conor oberst is the reason why music was created, and why mankind still exists. |
