| better than the cd version? are you kidding me? sure, it doesn't have the almighty violin (which, as we all know, when introduced raises the song's overall credibility by at least 60% right?), but the lead guitarist's haunting melodies and sweeping high chords in the cd version is breathtaking.. not to mention thanks to the bass player the chorus had a bit of life breathed into it. and the drummer gives the song that extra military-esque edge, nope, in my opinion the cd version is a beautiful combination of all four instruments, demonstrates what a band should sound like, and completely blows the black cab version outta the water... | |

I reckon it's about better-off-than-thou members of society (blue blood) giving money to charity ("you gave all of your savings to the poor"), maybe not necessarily out of the kindness of their heart, but rather the fear of God. Back in ye olde times the church was pretty much all like "give us yo' money and God won't fuck yo' shit up, bitch". They're a bit more subtle about it these days though.. Flashflood, lightning, earthquakes...I think they're all God's wrath references.. The line "oh my, thank you for keeping me safe", that's the relief they feel in that now that they've donated, God will keep them safe from harm, "even though you know it don't always go that way" Yeah? Neah? |
