Personally, I just think it's about a guy looking back on his life and realising how fast time has flown by (eg.Half time goes by, suddenly you’re wise, another blink of an eye, 67 is gone) I can sort of relate to this cause I'm 14 and in forth year in my school (in Northern Ireland) and it seems like only yesterday I was 11 and leaving Primary School =( Great song! =) |

To me it's about a guy who see's a girl (possibley an ex girlfriend?) in a club and watches her the whole night that she's there and then follows her home. Or, in shorter words, it's about a stalker. Allow me to explain: "His eyes are locked on her, Her eyes are fixed elsewhere, He’s confident, but he's not aware, She doesn't care." He see's the girl and is confident that he can win her over, but she doesn't notice him at all. "Their only connection, is the silence that they both grasp, he's lost control, but she’s not aware, of his stare. Basically, he's completely nuts and she probably won't notice until it's too late. "Everything seems to intimidate him, with the strobe lights flashing, her body's jolting, But cracking, as his eyes, spilt in two, if only she knew..." Self explanitary. Everything is intinidating him (maybe he was drnking heavily or taking some sort of drug?) and the 'narrator' just wishes that she knew what was going on so as she could avoid her obviously nasty fate. "The curtain goes down on him again…" Think of it this way. When the curtain goes down at the end of a play, well, it's the end, isn't it? So this probably sybalises her doom. "Everything seems to be closing in on her, It feels just like she is being hunted, But its all right, it's all good, She’s not aware, of his stare..." Again, Self explanitory. He's hunting her down and she just isn't aware. "We’ve had this date from the beginning…" In my opinion, this shows that they may have been going out at some stage and she's dumped him flat on his ass and he probably still wants her. But I don't mean like the 'omg she's so fit' type of way. I mean like the 'I want to hurt you just to hear your voice' type of way. "The curtain goes down on him again… Who remains when the curtain falls? Who remains when the curtain goes down...?" It symbalises the end of the night... and the end of her. Well, that's my opinion. Personally, I think this is a brilliant song. Not quite as good as Sorry You're Not a Winner, but still brilliant =) |

Okay, heres what i think. Its kind of a weird theory but it sort of fits with the whole addictions thing... maybe its about anorexia? Thats probably not what they INTENTIONALLY wrote it about but its a theory. Allow me to explain: "Waist low in pleasure" well, your stomachs just above your waist, and the person in question would get pleasure out of making it smaller ie. losing weight. "Black eyes nose bleeds" the person may have gotten beat up and bullied in school alot "Don't look back now" the person belives that there is no turning back from what they're doing. "My white abode, do you remember, my white abode?" hmmm... a bit tricky... but i think that they used to feel safe it their home (the "white abode") but now they dont feel that sense of security anywhere. "But it's such a thrill just to find out" obviously it's a thrill for them to read the scales and find out how much weight they've lost. "With the air so cold and a mind so bitter" the person feels cold and alone like no one understands their pain What have you got to lose but false intentions and a life so pretentious?" the person always says that they will "tell someone now" or "quit tomorrow" (false intentions) but they are never able to bring themselves to do that. Also, maybe they like showing off how skinny they've gotten (a life so pretentious) even though they still don't think of it that way. "I sweat, I ache" their stomach hurts after having deprived themselves of food for what could range from weeks to mounths. But I can't really explain the "I sweat" part. "Insert your coin, please try again" it's metophoric. The person keeps trying this again and again and obviously doesn't get help. I'm sorry for the long explaination but I just think that I should show my work so you don't all call me crazy. Also, I seriously don't think that the guys would write about someone with anorexia and want to remind you that ITS ONLY A THEORY. =) |
