sounds like she lead him on hardout, "If distance is a girl's best friend Tell them bitches in the rough who think that love comes with DIAMONDS Slave labor, you made me work for what I couldnt have" to me it sounds like it was a long distance relationship hence the letter writing, or just a relationship where they didnt see much of each other. But overall when he says "you made me work for what i couldnt have" it makes me think that she never put in as much effort as he did |

^^ i love those four lines after my last relationship i swear my drinking, depressive habits were all based around this fucking song. It was my favourite song for that whole time, and still is one of them today. I have a love hate relationship with it though as it does bring up some dark times of my life. Slug really knows how to cut to the core of a person with some tracks |

^^ sort of Im pretty positive that the bum is the waitress's father, but im not quite sure as to whether she knows or not, "But she notices my absence on those afternoons I don't come." line could mean she feels a connection but doesnt realise it or that she knows hes her father and like him she deep down enjoys the love hate relationship between the waitress and the bum. Overall the bum feels regret for being a bad father and feels that any form of communication between him and his daughter good or bad is good enough to piss off a waitress every day |
