to songyone: yeah, you're pretty much dead-on with all that you've said. i suppose my maw wouldnt have liked to see me coming in wi a burst face but it's something that all boys have to do at some point, yknow...?
but, as for his dad's words, they're spot on, the dad in the song knows the best way to cut out the bullying is for the lad to stand up to them.
but it's not meant to be the cheesy sounding "go, square, go!" ..the boy isn't a "little square". nobody gets called a "square" in glasgow. it's meant to mean "let's go, let's have a square go..ya prick" kind of thing. scottish slang an' a' that. |

the last part, when james allan sings "...much i loved you" just absolutely blows me away. i can't think of ever hearing a more emotionally charged and socially relevant song. |
