| ps. it could be from a mental problem. such as DID. it would make sense also because he is acting like a few different people between the verses, chorus 1 & 2. | |

i'm on board with flatrabbit. also, "behold the dances of the snake" could mean when she tries to seduce him. |

| i'm going to have to agree about bad luck in relationships. the mirror represents the relationship. it got knocked to the floor and broken and in the end he realizes it was him who messed up. | |

| He Is Legend – China White II Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
China White I is about a man killing his wife/lover and burying her in his backyard to cover it up. Whereas China White II looks like a spin on the plot of them both. It appears as if China White II is explaining what is happening to this girl more in depth. She's being kept/tortured(possibly by "china white:" heroine) in a cellar in his back yard that he planted a garden over to keep people from happening upon the cellar door. Daughter: "Mother, father, where did you go? I hear the flowers as they speak below. (crying out for her parents and alone underneath this garden) Someone help me, I'm so afraid. The shape in the distance is coming my way." (she sees this man who's been keeping her in this cellar) "Oh, please come hold me." said the woman all covered in leaves. (this could explain more that she's underground. "covered in leaves = under the leaves that fall off in the Fall) "He's come again. The man with the roses that grow from his hands." (if she's being tortured with "china white," then she's tripping and not decyphering his hands from the flowers he's holding) "I'm your gardener." (the man speaking) "Mother, your poor hands. The better to hold yours again. (if she's still infected with "china white," then she could be hallucinating. and she has already demonstrated a problem with viewing hands) And where did he go?" (asking the shadow where her keeper went) I am him, my love. Watch my garden grow. (he speaks. intimidating her with the threat of the garden) Little girl, standing there with your daddy's skin and your momma's hair, (he obviously knows the parents.) I'll have you know I will feed them to my roses and you're next. (after he kills her, he plans on going after her family) I am the noises that you hear when you're in bed. And I'll be the last face that you see before you're dead. (the torment factor. she hears him watering/planting above her while she's trying to sleep. and he will be the last thing she see before he kills her) With your father gone and your mom in chains, (he kills the father, and frames the mother for the murder of the dad and daughter, resulting in her going to jail) I have time to sleep in late. (he can finally relax now that no one is breathing down his neck anymore) Your mother never looked so good. (another reference to the news, which shows her mugshot) Your daddy should have brought his gun. (if he would have brought a gun, then the gardener would be dead and his daughter would be alive) Now sleep child, just sleep. And when you wake you will grow at my feet. (he kills her in his sleep. maybe an overdose of heroine) Yes, when you wake you'll be beautiful again. (she'll be free of her transgressions against him) |

while it's hard to deny the irrefutable evidence of drug references in this song. such things like china white (the pure white powder form of cocaine) could be coincidence. i laughed at GreatMike1's interpretation of the song at first, but once i read the lyrics and thought about it more, it does make sense. i believe this song is about love gone wrong. the man becomes overbearing and finds her being unfaithful and kills her and buries her in his backyard as to hide the evidence. "china white" could be referring also to the alcoholic shot, which could be used to numb his conscience. It's getting late I'm coming home (home is where him and his wife/lover lived) I picked this rose for you (to place at her grave) I've been away searching for oceans With time to kill (her favorite thing was the ocean, and he needs to feel connected to her still) You better buy a gun Because I've seen them watching you The old man and his son They have been studying your moves (this could actually be from HER point of view; maybe it's her telling him that he's a suspect in her death) Why won't it rain They need the water (the flowers he picked for her at the beginning of the song) They'll die faster than you (because she will live forever in his memory) I'm not in pain I've got my flowers (the physical representation of her still alive) Its happening (he knows he's a suspect now) You better get your gun I see them watching you This pain has just begun (her telling him it's about to get a lot worse with him being a suspect) "You will see me in the news I know you will" (he knows she watching over him) "And I don't understand why I sleep all day, and I start to complain when there's no rain" (referenced to Blind Melon's song "No Rain" which is wholly about depression; he's obviously depressed) "I don't believe in miracles but I believe in you" (from her POV again. she knows he can't change, but he can do the right thing and turn himself in) Now I can't wait until I can sleep in late Maybe I'll miss you then With no garden to tend (he no longer has to deal with the everyday pain of tending to the garden at her grave if he's in jail) I am your gardener!?! Oh no (what have I done) (regret finally sets in.) |
