Thank you Emiliana84 and Idril831; your comments were very enlightening. I started out thinking this song was about some guy's woman going cold on him. (i.e. turning the leaves into something frozen as opposed to beautiful crystals) Now that I know the back story, I feel humbled. But I still believe that the lyrics can (loosely) be interpreted in another way. So I wrote a poem based on it. Except my subject is more general and detached (this poem is about America's shallow conception of beauty): True Beauty's Loss I hope the leaves don't touch you as they fall, so that you can't freeze them up. I hope the rain stops being a "wonder" running down your body. I hope that the moon can come out without you. I hope that the world doesn't give you an easy time. I wish that your constant gaze, your perfect words, your perfect smile would all just fade away. I hope that something happens to get you off my mind: A blinding flash of light, a blizzard, something at least to take me to death, So that I won't see you so much, so that I won't see you at all, in every second...in each waking vision. I hope I can't even touch you in song. I hope the dawn doesn't bring back memories that fall on me. and I wish that your name didn't claim its glory. If only your steps stopped echoing in the walls of my mind... I need for this useless lust to fade away... to your land of flowers and emptyness. [Repeat] |
