I'm not sure if this has been said (the first page of nonsense was enough to read) but this is the meaning I've extracted from the song: this is about a mutually destructive relationship: you need me like a bad habit One that leaves you defenseless, dependent, and alone A bad habit is something you continue to do even though it hurts you due to some sort of attachment or fear of existence without it. This habit (the "singer") leaves the subject in a negative state and needs the subject to be in this state in order to be effective. where he is finally admitting what is actually going on: Go on just say it Well I'll just say it I'll just say it I need you defenseless, dependent, and alone They are together because she loves the pain or she is too attached/scared to let go even though it is obviously hurting her (I am assuming this is about a girlfriend, but a friendship could apply also to any gender) The attention part (and I'm 100% sure it says "attention", not "intention") doesn't seem to mean she is conceited necessarily, but she could just need/want his attention specifically; or even attention in general, which could be where their obvious problems are coming from. This is totally different from their previous album where it's all "OMG THESE GRLZ R HURTING ME FEEL BAD OMG BLEEDING ON YOUR SHIRT" even though the sound is similar to their last album. I think it's an awesome transition; this song will obviously catch old fans' attention and they can finally get the message out there that they can finally admit that these bad relationships are due to both parties. This is just my take on the song. |
