This is quite obviously a reference to the Troubles - and yes, Roisin is prolly a reference to Roisin Dubh. If you try googling it with roisin instead of rosin, you might get more hits. |

Elaborating a bit on my little theory - the 3 rosary beads could mean the three colours of the flag, and the part about them falling apart should then be pretty obvious... |

As mentioned before, the Irish Flag consists of Green, Orange, and White, the latter meant to symbolise peace and union between the Protestants and Catholics.(At least that's how I understand it.) AFAIK, these colours have by some been described as being green, white and GOLD by Republicans in order to deny the protestant colours, it's even the lyrics of a Republican song. Could the phrase "Wipe that golden tear from your mother dear, and raise what's left of the flag for me" be a reference to this? How else would a tear be GOLDEN?
In light of the statements Dave apparantly has made, the meaning probably is that the peace/union-colour is the most important one.
Had it not been for that, I could've sworn that the song was about reuniting Northern Ireland with Ireland, that "the colour we're born to mourn" is the orange colour of the flag representing the Unionists of Northern Ireland, and that "till freedom reigns on all" means the uniting of Ireland. |
