| Warpaint – Billie Holiday Lyrics

My first thought was that it was about a heroin addict as well. The "guy" in the song is heroin. And Billie Holiday famously struggled with her heroin addiction. When she sings "we are birds of a feather" she's speaking of how she and Billie are tied together by their shared addiction. |

I agree about the transwoman comment. I doubt it's how Santigold intended it but every line fits so well! I've got it on my playlist of transgender songs, haha. |

| Nellie McKay – I Wanna Get Married Lyrics

This is such a sarcastic song! She doesn't want to get married, and packing lunches and cleaning are the furthest things from her mind. She's making fun of other songs where women talk about their dreams of settling down with a man, but that's not what she wants. Like in the other songs on Get Away From Me, Nellie is attacking the establishment, but here she's laying the sarcasm on thick, so that the song could almost be mistaken for a quiet confession if it wasn't for ludicrous lines like "that's why I was born." |

"Let history witness my honor is tossed..."
I believe the line is actually "Let history witness my onerous task," but I could be wrong. |

| Nellie McKay – Waiter Lyrics

The chorus of this song is a sort of pun. It sounds like she's asking a waiter at a restaurant to bring her the change from her meal, but the line could also be interpreted as her needing change, as in changing the world. The title of the song refers to the fact that she's a "waiter," waiting for this change to occur. |
