| Jonathan Coulton – That Spells DNA Lyrics

Per the JoCopedia: "The strings of DNA mentioned in the song are made up. According to JoCo, 'I'm pretty sure that actual important strings of DNA would be too long to put into a song and still have a song that someone might want to listen to.'" |

| Jonathan Coulton – Christmas is Interesting Lyrics
| 16 years ago

It's a song about the strange pop culture stories that have become part of Christmas. The song is about how "A Visit from St. Nicholas", "The Gift of the Magi", "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Citizen Kane", "It's a Wonderful Life", and "A Christmas Carol" really, for the most part, have nothing to do with what Christmas is about, but have become so much a part of our culture that they intermingle with and, at times, eclipse the story of the first Christmas. |

| Jonathan Coulton – Kenesaw Mountain Landis Lyrics

This song was written in the spirit of a great tall tale. It exaggerates the facts, fabricates parts out of whole cloth, and pokes fun at Joe Jackson for having an unfortunate, coincidental name-share. Like most of Coulton's songs, take it with the prescribed grain of salt. It's all in fun. |

| Jonathan Coulton – The Future Soon Lyrics

I am in the same age bracket as Coulton and remember seeing how cool the world was SUPPOSED to be by the time I was in my 30s. Our Weekly Reader had all these stories about how science was going to launch us to Buck Rogers-style awesomeness where we, the geeks, would inherit the earth. Well, the geeks are inheriting the Earth and we are all wondering where our monorails, Mars bases, and cybernetic upgrades are.
On the bright side, I did get the girl. No coercion, threats, or mind-control devices necessary. |

| Jonathan Coulton – Re: Your Brains Lyrics

Coulton worked in the corporate world before doing music. When brainstorming songs, he thought, "What if that annoying jerkwad that works in every office in existence were to become a zombie?" Then he had that zombie find the coworker who hates that guy and annoy the crap out of him. That is pretty much the deepest meaning you are going to get from this song, which is why I love it. |

| Jonathan Coulton – Creepy Doll Lyrics
|
Per Coulton: "I don’t know what’s going on with this one, I just decided earlier this week that it was time to write a song about a creepy doll. I was thinking about various 70s horror movies that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. Back then you didn’t need to torture people with chainsaws and drills to make a scary movie, it was enough just to have a doll that kept showing up. Or maybe a clown. I couldn’t keep a straight face though, somewhere in the middle of the song the doll just becomes not so much creepy as annoying."
So, yeah. No deep meaning. Just some wacky fun. Take what you want from it. |

Per Coulton: "For those of you who don’t know, Soterios Johnson is the morning anchor on the NPR station here in New York, WNYC. He may or may not have a secret life of dance, but he’s got a pretty sweet radio voice. Thanks SoJo…" |

| Jonathan Coulton – Big Bad World One Lyrics

The song is poking fun at defeatist attitudes and self-fulfilling prophesies. The guy in the song never takes a chance because he feels as though he won't succeed anyway. |

In typical preacher fashion, Fred talks about a guy who bitches and moans about everything that isn't handed to him in life. In the end, Fred admits that he can't sit in judgement since we all do the same thing to some degree or another at times.
As with any personality flaw, admitting it is an issue is the first step that his friend seems to have not taken yet. |
