I think it might be "All my friends, they catch me when I'm dumb" it makes sense with the following line.

I'd like to talk about the comment from "beetleking" you claim Aaron is speaking about Jesus in the O Porcupine lyrics, well compare it with the verse you gave from the Bible:
You wanna be set free? You wanna set me free?! Well that can ONLY come from A union with the
One Who Never Dies.
Jesus said:
“I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!” (Rev. 1:17—18)

You just proved yourself that Aaron was talking about God not Jesus because in the Bible verse Jesus states that he died and in the song Aaron says he can only come from the one who NEVER dies. God is the one who never dies, Jesus obviously died.

I've read everyone else's comment, but as a final word I would like to say: Jesus can be the messiah, he can be the "son of God" however you define that, but don't call him God. The greatest misconception is the idea that Jesus is God, more-so the idea that the messiah has to be God. Come on people... where is your mind? While we're at it lets call Mary a god, Paul a god... seriously...

I don't think this song is about how he fails to see G-d but rather how
he does not trust the path to G-d in the hands of humans.

when he says "when not a thing we see or touch we trust is true"
it reminds me of when he says in a song "everyone who answers me is a liar"
and the album title "it's all crazy, its all false, ..."

He states "what need for books when we're with You?"
I can understand his view on this because often times I think,
If I were stranded on an island with no scriptures, G-d would still exist
and my relationship with G-d is not contingent upon scriptures.
And in the presence of G-d we forget all this was once so seemingly important.
The scripture is good, but why need it when you have G-d?

I see this as an honest "worship" song. Not a christian worship song where its extremely idealistic like from hillsong where we sing "all I need is You" but then in our daily lives we trust doctors to cure us, we save up money in case anything goes wrong, we get upset when we don't get the job/girlfriend/recognition we want, we invest all our time in education to entrust a good life.

has anyone noticed...

and the snake perked up
when he heard You ask
"if you're willing that
this cup might pass
we could find our way back home
maybe start a family all our own"

Aaron pictures Jesus asking G-d if this cup might pass,
He could find his way back home and maybe start a family all his own.

Jesus starting a family, I wonder if that is what Aaron is saying.

mewithoutYou – Timothy Hay Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this song is a lot more literal and simple than many initially stated.

I want to first point out how Aaron Weiss views this world. In "All the Clever Words on Pages" by Paul Harrison (a friend of Aaron Weiss), Paul states how Aaron doesn't like to waste food and how he feels bad doing so. Aaron would take food from dumpsters and cook meals for himself and often a group of people. His mother wanted Aaron to understand some things will get wasted and we just have to live with it.

Aaron also states a lot of believes where he expresses that G-d is everywhere and in everything (in a certain sense). Even in the smallest things like a good gesture, creation, and us. This view is very common with a particular religion (I forgot which one) but the point is that Aaron obviously adopted this belief where he G-d is in the smallest of things.

All that being said, I believe this song is about how our culture is careless with G-d's creation
and Aaron is simply stating this story/belief.

- He talks about how the holland lops hopping along some grass and cut hurt because the grass was cut. The grass doesn't speak out against us and doesn't mind it being cut. This act of cutting the grass doesn't take into consideration other animals and how they might dislike this...

- He talks about chicken wire hutch, how the chicken is limited.

- "I touched her back, she was lying face down
the dew turned to frost in her eyes
me and sister margaret in the pentagon lawn with our wrists in a plastic tie":
Here he is talking about the grass. Aaron touched the back of the grass with its face lying down.
The grass is probably lying face down because someone walked on it or he was laying on the grass when being arrested. The due is on the tip of the grass which he calls her eyes, it turned to frost.

- can you guys apply this view to the rest of the song now? Aaron puts himself in the shoes of animals and says no more timothy hay as a way to say "we animals are tired of this life where you limit us in every way, G-d made us to roam free, live our life, and here you humans are being all selfish, cutting our lovely grass where we play and sleep, putting us in cages, trying to kill us with traps, and feeding us this nasty food"

- I can't quite understand how the last paragraph fits in this picture, I might come back and comment later after reading from the CD lyrics.

What do you guys think?

mewithoutYou – The Angel of Death Came to David's Room Lyrics 16 years ago
I understand completely what your saying, and your right.
What I said and what you said are two separate things.

I want to point out that I don't see the angel of death as evil, like
you implied in your first post (hoping the angel of death's home is not in heaven)
To me he is like all other angels commanded by God to be his hand.

I am saying the angel of death is not evil, your second post talks about
goliath being evil, and humans having to choose our path in life with consequences, etc...
thats the distinction of my topic/yours

I don't think the angel of death should be seen as an evil angel.
Death in itself is not evil, it is a process from leaving our physical bodies.
I can see why its common to think that the angel of death is evil,
because we humans are afraid of death, so associate this angel with evil.
But rather I believe this angel is like all other angels. In scriptures, God
orders angels to do things, this angel is no different.
His specific task is to take peoples lives. Daunting to those afraid to die,
but really a beautiful thing. Like in King Beetle
it says God thins our numbers with kindness and grace.

There fore "He'll be waiting for us when we get back home" I believe is
the home God made for us. He is waiting for us there.

"ok this is just my two cents. aaron is by no way claiming mohamed as God"

yeah he definitely isn't, Muslims never worship Muhammad, they acknowledge
him as a messenger of God. Never to praise him.
"Sallalah wallah Muhammad (Sal.)" the Sal most likely is translated into
Peace Be Upon Him Muslims say very often after his name. for short they
abbreviate it and type it in parenthesis (pbuh)

I think there is no reason to believe that Aaron thinks salvation is only through Jesus.
Unless he blatantly states that Jesus is God. What ever though, we should never expect him to believe
everything we believe. He is his own being and not to be a slave to our beliefs.

-----

In the Bible Jesus never said worship me. He said only through me you can go to the
Father because at that time who else was speaking of only truth? no one. That is
also why he said let the dead bury their own dead to the man with a dead father.
If the man left Jesus to attend his father he too would become spiritually dead
because at that time Jesus was the only bearer of truth.

When some people/disciples worshiped Jesus in a few texts in the new testament, the word "worship"
had lost its original meaning through the translation of languages.
The word worship in the Bible means to kneel before and also to a sacred service.
In these cases where Jesus was worshiped in the new testament it was meant he
was payed respect. One example is in Matthew 2:2

I encourage everyone to research this, and believe in what you believe not because your parents
believe it and the parents before them believed it as well. Test what is taught an look for truth.
I used to worship Jesus, but now I worship God alone.

"no one here to believe but You
everyone else is bound to leave but you
when they swear their love is real,
they mean "i like the way you make me feel"
there's no one here to believe but you"

I think he's saying that there is no one on earth to believe but God.
Everyone else is bound to leave and disappoint you,
even when they swear their love is real, (the lack of pure love is part of the disappointment)
it really isn't because the love is not pure like God's.
Therefore there is no one to look up to but God.
