of Montreal – Famine Affair Lyrics 14 years ago
Famine Affair has picked up on probably the most important point; the line "You don't let me sleep
and when you do it's just teeth-falling-out nightmares" isn't just in there because it sounds good, it is a reference to Sigmund Freud and his slightly perverted views on the human brain and its workings. I interpret this song to be about a relationship the protagonist has with a female (which is the "affair" the song title refers to). The "famine" that the song title alludes to is the fact they aren't having sex at all, yet the man is still drawn to the lady and she knows this...

"You act aloof, say that I'll crawl back. You must be sick."

Because they aren't having sex, this in turn makes the guy feel "ugly" about himself and this gives her a chance to leave the relationship. And the guy is having to jerk off as he isn't getting his leg over, which takes us back to the Sigmund Freud reference and his teeth-falling out-nightmares.

The Futureheads – Worry About It Later Lyrics 17 years ago
through the trees is right in saying that, but you are actually only touching the surface of the deepness of this song. Think about it. This is clearly a case of 'art imitating life'. The risk is writing a song that has no verse/chorus/verse/chorus pattern, in the way standard songs are written. It is just a build up of pressure, noise and energy that gives the song a sexuality, until after about 2 and half minutes, there is an explosion (orgasm, if you will) for about 25 seconds, which is followed by the 'come down' after the orgasm.
The line "I will pay, I will pay, I will pay as much or as little as I have to, to try and confuse you..." means that some people listening to this will be confused and will not 'get' the song, as it is not a straight forward song, indeed it is highly complex. It is more sound engineering than a song.
To follow up a fairly successful album - both musically and commercially - with a second album that has such songs on like this, is the 'risk' that Barry is singing about in the song. It is a highly ambitious song, but the 'Heads pull it off in a way that only they can.
